My little boy just started screaming nonstop. He was doing fine and all of a sudden he cries for hours. He do not behave that way when we go out to a different place. What can be causing him to react that way? It is like our house has become a house of screaming.Even though he has autism he has been a good boy.

sudden screaming is usually severe pain or a sensory issue.

is there a new noise or something new in the house.

also he may actually like the feeling i his ears that screaming makes it tingles and tickles

Is it crying, or is it screaming? Screaming can be because needing to hear and feel inside his upper chest and throat. It's also similar to when autistic's go luckluckluclkcluk... is an order thing. He's needing to express things as like a sneeze as well - he feels he needs to get that out of his body (can get him to do some activities and OT as well to help with the minimization of that).

Also, make sure there isn't something like ear infection etc.

Hope that helps.

Luv,

Kris

PS: I'm 21, have Autism and recently have been making high pitched noises throughout the day... it is hard to explain but a sensory diet can help.

I am having the same damn problems and I am BEYOND frustrated w/ my SON!!! He SCREAMS every other damn second!!! It is driving me INSANE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've tried screaming w/ him... doing sensory-input type of play (which by the way is SUPER exhausting as he's about 50 lbs)... sending him to his room... but HE WONT STOP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Nor will he lower his voice... I am on the verge on tears and on the brink of LOSING my temper!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG!!! SOMEONE must be going through something similar and have some answers.. PLEASE HELP!

It's hard to say what to do for someone elses child. Sometimes my son makes noises because he is fascinated by that particular noise. This is a hard one to stop, but sometimes a change of scenery (taking him somewhere) that he finds interesting can help.

Other times it means he's in pain. Even when my son doesn't say he's in pain, if his behavior seems out of control and indicates possible pain I will try a single dose of a children's pain reliever. This usually helps.

As a last resort. I would take him to the hospital. When my son would not sleep more than a couple of hours a night and nothing else was working I took him to the hospital and they helped with some medication. I know some parents don't want to medicate, but if he won't stop screaming (or can't) then maybe seeing a doctor could help.

I hope you get some relief

My son hasn't done the screaming thing but for a while he would chirp. His would start chirping when things were loud or busy around him. Oh my gosh, the pitch of those chirps would make my ears ring!!! Eventually he stopped on his own, I was about to loose my mind with that chirping though LOL, we got lots of stares when we were in public. I agree with the others though, he's either in pain or he likes the sound of his own voice. I would take him in to see the doc, he may have an ear infection.

Hello Kris!!! Miss you my friend!

screaming is a sensory ssue it is a way to block any sensory traffic,it may be someone trying to speak to them or wanting them to do something, also it gives a nice sensation of a tickle and buzz

have you tried taping the screaming and letting the child listen to it through headphones
