Hi RJ2003, Will you let me know how it works for your son. I am not sure I see a big difference with my son and am now questioning weaning him off it to see if it makes a difference. My son has also gained a lot of weight but I am not sure it is because of the meds or not. He is also on Celexa for anxiety and that does have a weight component to it. Also, he has eating issues of a different sort. He likes to eat a lot and food is always a battle for us because he would just eat and eat and eat if I let him. He used to do the same thing when he was nursing, he would nurse until he threw up and I would feed him some more.

It is so nice to have this forum to find others of like situations and be able to help each other out. I have needed this for so long.

he would be uncomfortable in his body even if he was thin hun.

I have never been comfortable the feelings of being differant are sometimes overwhelming so it will not just be is weight.

my son sam is 5 he weighs nearly sven stone he has no meds hardly eats anyting and is still huge he also wobbles rather than walks.

i bought a trampoline to exercise him he bounces for hours yet no weightt comes off he also goes swimming,we had all the checks and nothing there is no medical reason at the moment that is causing him to keep growing wider lol

the tests would have shown up even if had not ate for days it would still be there no matter what

Good Morning Shell,

The weight did start when he started taking the medication last September. We are hoping he looses at least 20lbs, and when he gets taller he will thin out as well. He just doesn't look the same and I know the weight frustrates him as well. Did you ever check for yeast build up in you son and is his stomach really hard as well?

Thanks Janet

Hello,

Rorey did gain the weight from Celexa that was the first medication we started him on and found out that it wasn't working. The we went to Respiradal that didn't work then Abilify and that isn't working. Now we are going to see if the Tenex works by itself after weening him off the Abilify. If that does not work he goes to a school that just works with Autism, and we will have the bahaviorist work with him more intensely. Rorey has a strange diet and we trying to introduce him to different foods and try to only give him half of what he is eating. It's not easy but everything is trial and error and we will just keep trying. Rorey would sit done and eat a whole bag of Lay's Potato Chips if we would let him, but now we are just trying to curb his appetite. I will be sure to keep you up to date, and chat with you anytime. We need all the help we can get and better to turn to than a Mother

Talk Soon

Janet

Food Chemistry Issues Phenols, Salicylates, Amines are chemicals found in basically all foods. For some children have difficulty processing these natural food chemicals into useful, non-harmful substances. This condition is called PST deficiency. So you need to reduce your child’s intake, or help the body process them. Otherwise they build up to levels which can affect his behavior and physical condition.

Some typical symptoms indicating your child may have a problem are [not all of these need be present]: swollen stomach, dark circles under the eyes, red face/ears, diarrhea, hyperactivity, aggression, headache, head banging or other self-injury, inappropriate laughter, difficulty falling asleep at night, and night waking for several hours.

Digestive enzymes assist with food intolerances - poor digestion. An enzyme test can reveal what the child has trouble digesting, absorbing or assimilating, such as protein, sugars or fats plus certain nutritional deficiencies, such as vitamin C and calcium. There is an enzyme formula for each digestive problem and nutritional deficiency. Minerals, Vitamins for Proper Methyl Metabolism, Amino Acids, Fatty Acids, Antioxidants, Herbs, and Epsom Salt Baths are other very important natural supplemental regimes to explore.

Thank you very much for all of that wonderful information. My son just started an enzyme to help break down the food in his system, he hasn't been on it long so I haven't seen much of a defference yet. Hopefully it will help him. Like I said in the past trial and error I will try everything unless or course it will put him in any kind of danger.

Hello Kari,

Don't ever feel like you are jumping in we are all in this together and if any issue comes up that might help you and your child go for it.

My son has had a stomach problem for a while now it started about two years ago. Now it has worsen because he gained so much weight and his BM's have been horrible. So I have this awesome GI doctor who works out of Mass General, he decided to give Rorey an episcopy and a colonoscopy as well as a lot of blood work. He wanted to rule out a lot of things, well he found out that he has had acid reflux for at least a couple of years because his esophogus was so swollen. He also discovered his lower intestine was very lumpy and bumpy and his body was not breaking down sugars and fats. So he put him on a prilosec and enzymes. The prilosec was not working so he put him on Zegerid. He has to have another episcopy because his esophogus was so swollen. I am so happy we had the test because my Mother just past away almost a year ago of Barrett's Disease. So if you can find or if you have a GI Doctor ask if you can have some test taken. Sorry to go on for so long.

Janet

Not long at all, I like hearing it. Thanks for the information. I don't have a GI hear yet but next month when I go to the University of Michigan I am going to push for one. Some times I have a hard time getting doctors to listen or do anything. Sometimes they act like you are over reacting or they just act like its nothing and blow you off. This is a New University so we will see how it goes and I will push for everything I can cause my daughter can't continue like this and I know she would benefit from an enzyme etc.. but I don't know what the right one would be. I feel helpless and she suffers
