Hello Shell,

Rorey's Doctor is going to ween him off the abilify and see how things will go. We just discovered that he has acid reflux from his GI doctor. So he is on Zegerid to help the swollen of his esophogus and the acid reflux. So we should know in about a month how he does.

Now I am wondering if my son would do better off the med's he is taking (celexa for anxiety and tenex for attention). Since he has been on it his anxiety and mood swings seems to be better but I don't know if he is just growing out of that stage or if it is the med's. How does a person know? All I know is he just keeps gaining weight and although he does have sensory issues and seems to never get full I do feed him a pretty healthy diet with occasional "treats" because I believe no one should deny themselves or it will only get worse.

I feel like he doesn't get the signal that he is full and would eat until sick. When he was a baby he used to nurse until he threw up!!

Shell, do you have any thoughts on this not feeling full or satisfied after eating? This also makes me question the malnutrition piece. Any thought from anyone is welcome. Thank You.

Sharon

Meds

The meds will affect the body in many ways the amount I was on when I was little(including valium)not only affected my weight but my state of mind always feeling like I was not there ,to many will mix with each other and begin to fight each other for supremacy the most potent wiping out any effect of the others.but leaving all the side affects

My advice is as above see yor gp ask to ween him off give it a month to clear his system then see how it goes.

feeling full

Normal children get the feeling they are full or if they ignore that they feel sick.

our kids do not get this feeling the do not get full, they will eat and eat whatever is there without a thought.

Thank Shell,

We are going to ween him off the Abilify we actually alreday started. The Doctor is going to try a new med I can't think of it off the top of my head. They use it for high blood pressure in other patience (sp)? The doctor said it will help with his aggression and there are no side effect of gaing weight so we will see. I think this will probably be the last med that we are going to try.

Janet

So this is a typical attribute of Spectrum children? I am so appreciative of your knowledge. We had him tested for Prader Willi syndrome too.

Do you have any ideas as to how to deal with this? I don't have the problem that some do that their kids will not eat or will only eat certain foods. Mine will eat almost anything (except mushrooms although as of late he is becoming more and more picky but he will still eat. Food is a constant battle between us all the time.

Thank you for your help.

Janet,

my son is on Tenex also. Is yours going on it to help with attention? Please let me know how this works for him. How old is he?
