MDJunction to me

MisaBlue01"MD Junction has been a safe haven for me. I have met so many caring and understanding people and i don't feel so alone anymore with my bipolar. I now know that others suffer as well and that we need each other for support. I hope that one day we can all learn to love and respect each other more and that no one will have to suffer anymore." i got a couple books at the library and while i have only read a few pages of the first book i have new hope for my son's future. the author talkes about books written by people who grew up with ASD and she talks about people she interviewd that went to college and one woman who has a PhD. these people grew up in a time when there really wasn't a whole lot of information and knowledge about autism. they talk about the difficulties they had as children and one person talks about his wife. most of them did not even get diagnosed until their children were diagnosed. my son can be happy and function productivley in society and even get married and have kids some day. for me this gives us a whole new lease on life. when i fisrt started noticing that he had some ASD behaviors i worried and felt like this was going to be a long hard road that was going to be very difficult on us and i did not know how i would make it through. but with just those few pages i now feel like this won't be so difficult. it might take a little while to discover the way he learns best but i kbnow once we figure that out it will be so much easier on him and all of us and we will all be happy, but most importantly he will be happy.

That's great to hear mommacooties. There are so many inspirational adults out there who have grown up on the spectrum. Hearing what they have to say is a great starting point towards understanding how our kids see the world. They can explain things to us clearly that a lot of NT "specialists" can only speculate on. In fact, I probably learned more useful stuff from Temple Grandin on YouTube than from the whole staff at the Children's hospital combined!
