I have a newphew 13 years old. He is autistic, ADHD, OCD, Post traumatic stress syndrome (from being raped as a child by an uncle) and FAS. We were told after we found out about his rape that there was the possibility he could act on this once he begins puberty. Well, he has begun acting on it. He has tortured animals, himself and is now starting on other members of his family. He has been hospitalized in Arkansas but only for a week or so at a time. He has beaten his stepmother repeatedly and threatened his father and sisters. After this last beating, my step-sister left with the two girls until my brother could hospitalize him. He was hospitalized Wednesday and is now back home. Our problem seems to be finding a long term health facility equipped to handle him. It seems like we keep running into doors. The hospitals tell them when they leave with him that if they take him home they will call the police for "child endangerment". Can they do this and, if so, why would they release him??? I have searched Google and I cannot find sufficient support - Easter Seals is not equipped for him and a search on dangerous autistic children revealed no web sites. Our family needs help. My brother is reluctant to put him in a hospital but we are running out time and we have essentially no choice. If anyone knows a place for us to start, we would really appreciate your input. Thanks!

Shell,

Thanks for responding.

Yes he is on meds and he has a therapist and a psyc....they don't seem to be much help. As far as the State goes, we're hoping they will be a last resort. Right now, we're trying to find a place that will nurture and help him instead of keeping him medicated...I've just heard terrible things about State run facilities - maybe they're rumors but, like I said we'd really like him to get help where someone cares about him.

Maybe I live in a dream world but, I'll keep looking and praying.

Thanks again.
