Hi Kayla

We can have so many externals that are wonderful but if we are miserable on then inside it is very difficult to connect or feel grateful for them. You are the prime age for anxiety to rear up - know that people recover from this condition every day and you can have a normal life again.

As with any health challenge we have to fully educate ourselves on recovery tools - do them ALL -All the time and keep turning over rocks to find the next answer. When I was 19 I was housebound for 3 years - hospitalized and given shock treatments. My anxiety was SEVERE and made worse because in 1996 there was no knowledge on it - no internet and no one to talk to who had it.

I worked out a program and was anxiety free for 25 years - you can be too!!

Hi

welcome to the group. Anxiety /depression are thought disorders. They never let truth get in the way of a good downer...loll . they convince us life is on the verge when in reality it's ok. How to break the cycle.

first off realize it is a condition with many harsh symptoms. We wouldn't

this less of our selves for coughing when we get a cold. I know it's way differnt with anxiety but the point is "It's the way we think" we arn't odd or bad. Get a Dr., get meds to take the edge off, then research on the net the differnt kinds of therapy such as cognitive or spiritual based and find a counselor who'll help you do it. post anytime, there is never a wrong question. Read posts. They give good insight. Take care.

That they are thought disorders is an oversimplification. There are many physiological reasons as well. Full recover often requires a comprehensive approach and not just CBT

Actually you are both correct. It could be a result of a thought process or it could be something neuro chemically wrong in the brain or even a combination of the two.

There is a theory that our neuro chemistry can be changed by our environment to where it sticks until we find the right treatments and changing our thought patterns can definitely be a part of that. But sometimes we need other help as well.

My main leadership role is to listen, encourage, and keep the peace....It isn't to give medical or legal advice...Please note...I am not a Doctor...nor an expert...I am here for the same reason all of you are...to receive and give encouragement.

I had to change the way I viewed the world and once I did that my anxier was reduced however I agree with Barelymanic and feel that this disorder is primarily a chemistry imbalance and most of us can not benefit just by talking to a therapist. See a Pdoc. They are much more qualified to prescribe medicatins. IMO family docs have no business prescribing psych meds.

Hi all. I'm new to the group and I have been suffering with anxiety disorder/panic attacks for 12 years now. I have been fine for about 4 years (with the help of Zoloft) but just this past weekend it came back full force. I ended up laying on the bathroom floor sweating and dry heaving because the anxiety is so build up in me I don't know what to do. I just started talking to a counselor again and went to see my doctor for a check up. I really wish this feeling would go away but I truly think its something that is just part of me now. I will fight every day, but I just want my life back. Sometimes, when I have this anxiety this bad, I don't know how to be my old self. Help!

Hi

You're headed in the right direction, going to therapy, having it medically checked out. Just keep reminding your self you had a 4 year remission once and it can happen again. Once you hit bottom and have a good remission you never hit bottom again. You may come close but you have more knowledge and skills now. You've also tasted remission and now you know what to look for. We all experience in and out of remission. The remission will start getting closer together and last longer. don't give up . Being anxious isn't the real you. It's temporary. Just keep saying that.

I agree. if it's temporary, under 3 weeks ( the depression) talking is the best way. If it persists then it is clinical and med's will help.
