I just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Kelly and I think MDJunction is great! I have had a really hard time finding people that are going through the same things I am, and here... there are so many people that are willing to help. Kudos to the founder Besides that, I'm in this group not only to support 2 family members with anxiety disorders, but also because I suffer from this (with depression) too. I am on medication and much better than I have ever been before. I have bad days, but I am thankful for people like you all that are willing to share and comfort others!

Kelly, welcome to the group. I am looking forward to getting to know you better. I hope that you find this group as wonderful as I have. You are right and MDJ is full of caring, compassionate people. Everyone is so willing to help and be supportive.

What kind of medication are you taking? I'm glad it is helping. I really need to get to my doctor and get something. I'm just worried about having alot of side-effects with all the other medication I take. I have small children and need to be on my toes at all times. I can't afford to take anything that will make me tired. I also suffer from depression but have not joined the group yet. I think I will do that right now!

Feel free to PM me anytime. I'm here if you need anything. I will do my best to help. Your Friend, Chris

The medicines that are helping with the anxiety are the anti-depressants I'm on. I started with Lexapro and saw very little to no change. I was still VERY anxious and still crying ALL the time (over stupid stuff, like my socks not matching). I went back to the doctor and while having an anxiety attack and crying hysterically told him that it wasn't working... he put me on Welbutrin Three days later, I was driving home from one of my classes and this sense rushed over me. I felt "normal." I don't know what that means, but it was so great. Previous to this, I was having a hard time because I didn't remember what it was like to be happy. I can smile for real now. In addition, the anxiety attacks have lessened. Like I said, I still have bad days. As far as anxiety goes, it is either when I am surrounded by tons of people or by myself (ie right before I go to sleep--so I take Benadryl to sleep). Because of this, I don't go "out" much, but do things like go to the park, go shopping, etc. Overcrowded stores are terrible for me though. I break out in a sweat and get nauseous.

As far as side effects- Welbutrin WILL make you tired, but I take it before bed, so that is good for me since I have trouble sleeping anyway.

I'm trying to get prescribed Diazapam (my dad and grandma take it when they are having anxiety attacks), but because my primary care is the University right now, I have many loops to jump through.

Sorry for the length, but I hope that helps.

I convinced one of my friends suffering from Depression to get on Welbutrin (was suicidal and previously on Lexapro), and he is SO much better now. I think it is a miracle drug!

Added bonus- I don't smoke but he did- Welbutrin is the same as Ziban (I think that's it), and many people are able to quit smoking when they're on it.

Kelly

Thank You for the information. I tried welbutrin and became very sick from it. It gave me the dry heaves so bad for 2 weeks that I couldn't eat. I will have to try something else.

I get the same way in crowds. I shake, sweat, get the lump in my throat, and feel like I need to run. I have also been having them at night b/c of pain. I hate to go to sleep b/c I hurt so bad when I lay for awhile in the same position. I'm up every hour or so to get rid of the stiffness I feel. I get a burning in my hips and knees and no doctor has been able to help. It is a horrible cycle.

I'm glad that you can smile for real now. It is hard when we are unhappy and can't seem to get out of the slump we are in. I have been there, off and on for many years. It is great to see people that have made large strides in becoming "normal" after suffering with anxiety. I hope you have a good nights sleep and a wonderful day!! Take care, Chris

Hi Kelly and welcome to the group. You will get alot of support and understanding here. Chris is brilliant, a great friend and support. I am glad that your medication is bringing you some peace and that you can smile again. Doctors where I live are very reluctant to prescribe Diazepam because of the addiction factor but it really does help with anxiety. I used to be on it but I did get addicted and had to be weaned off it slowly. I am the same as you. My anxiety is usually triggered by large crowds or when I'm winding down to go to bed but they are also triggered by a blast from the past or a familiar face. Here for you anytime you want to chat. Like I said, everyone here is always willing to listen and offer support.

I hope you find peace here.

Gemma
