Hi everyone,

How do you stop yourself from letting your negative scary thoughts take over? I know that I control my own thinking, but when you are having anxiety /panic it almost seems like you cant control your own thinking which then of course makes the anxiety worse!! I understand what negative thoughts do but i am still afraid of them.I talk myself into such a scary hopless place eventhough I know it is just anxiety. Any tips out there? Smile

i keep myself busy so i don't have time to really think or do hobbies that take lots of attention

Ironically, I had a anxiety/panic attack last night and didn't have my klonopin with me so I had to work my way through it. First, my chest started hurting really bad, like a mild heart attack, then I started having panicking thoughts, then I started crying and realized only I alone could stop it. I slowed my thoughts and breathing. I stopped myself from crying and waiting a long time for the chest pains to stop but after an hour and forty-five mins. I was ok. From therapy I learned coping skills and applied them to this situation. I can understand how your thoughts/mind can take over but you need to try to slow it down and talk yourself through the fact that you know what is happening and that you will get through it. Thanks so much for telling me your story and for the advice.I really appreciate it,its nice knowing that other people go through the same thing.

Thats great that you got through it on your own too.I havent tried therapy yet does it really help?

Yes therapy really does help...They can teach you coping skills so that when an incident arises you are able to deal with the symptoms. It def can't hurt to try, right? The next time one comes on literally talk your way through it. Saying things like "calm down" "relax" "it's going to be ok" may sound weird but it may actually work. Talk to you soon.

Yes I think I will try therapy, its just that I really procrastinate!! dont know if I spelled that right.

I have been thinking about it lately.I have had anxiety and panic attacks for so long off and on and now I am really just tired of it.Tired of feeling unable to cope with lifes problems and feeling scared.I guess talking to a professional might help compared to me just trying to get over it on my own and just hoping it will just go away! I will let you know how it goes and thanks again!!
