Hi, although I've been on MDJ for a while, this is my first time posting here. Last winter I was administered the MMPI II and was subsequently diagnosed with GAD. I thought this was total crap, but lately I've had an outbreak of GAD (thought to be mood-related). Every few days the anxiety morphs from guilt to compulsively picking at my sunburn to worrying about my health. I can't watch Dr. Oz because I'm sure I'm going to die.

I've had this problem since I was little -- back then I experienced something like terror for three months at a time, driving myself mad.

I also have OCD traits and avoidant traits -- Terrible combo. I isolate, and I'm always wishing the Earth would stop spinning if only for a little while . . . .

HI Zadie

I am sorry you are having so much difficulty.

The groups you are in seem to cover the bulk of your problems. Are you getting any guidance from them?

You need to be on mood stabalizing medicines. What meds are you currently on???

hugs, Raoul

I am not a doctor - and my advice is purely from my personal experience and my opinion!!

Previous discussions I participated in:

Sorry, my list (below) is a little old. I'm on Lithium (I just reduced from 1200 mg to 0 to 600 mg -- a possible source of the problem), Prozac, Adderall, Ativan, and a host of allergy meds (I'm no longer on the Geodon). I've had increased work stress lately. The GAD has flaired up and I feel powerless, so of course I worry even more.

Oh my yes... this can happen and it gets very illogical or can.

I had a wish once on the way to a piano recital that we get in a car accident before we get there.

I dreaded the idea of performing that much that I was desperate to get out of it in some way... so the thought processes we go through can get illogical but I think we can learn to work with it.

If we recognize our anxiety for what it is it is a very good beginning.

From there we can work on coping.

And make logical choices for ourselves.

I think that recognizing it has become a big factor in your life is an important first step.

Dx POTS, anemia, and anxiety.

Lol yes, I remember 12+ years ago thinking that I could get out of work of I broke my arm. I tried several times but ultimately walked away with a large, multi-colored bruise. This thinking was in no way logical.

I'm an Advocate

congrats on starting to post. It's a good idea to study the other posts until you are ready to join in. I just recieved a diagnosis and it threw me. I have always had major depression, anxiety/panic, now a Dr. added Borderline personality disorder. I paniced when I read the diagnosis but now I am calmer and started a new counselor. We are going to look at the diagnosis and go from there.

a diagnosis of generalized anxiety disorder is place to start. Try not to fixate like I did. See where you fit in the diagnosis and go from there.

Although I have been DXed with panic disorder, GAD, OCD, and moderate depression, I think GAD is the one thing that affects me the most. A component of the PD may be contributing to the excessive GAD I think.
