Hi i'm nicole i'm 17 and i have chronic pain in my left arm left leg and back. recently i have been having so much anxiety about being around alot of people expiecially if i know they will not be paying attention to what they are going. i am so afraid of someone rubbing up against me arm or hugging my tight or just being too close. my pain is so bad i dont want it to get worse.

because of this i am having a hard time talking to my friends from school and making plans, i have been out of school since mid january because i was a faint risk, and now i talk to them on facebook and text and stuff but i dont want to relapse and it really freaks me out

does anyone have any suggestions???

thanx Smile

Hi

If they are really friends they would understand. Explain your fears and maybe you could set up a safe time to be together. Meet at your house or one of theirs. Go to an open place, like a quiet park for a picnic, rent videos....

It's been sooooo long since I have been in high school ( 42 years loll) that I don't quite remember what it was like. God Bless.Smile

1. Have you seen a dr. about the pain

2. I agree those are NOT your friends or they would support and try to understand and if they cant understand at least be there to talk to you and support you anyway that they can,

3. The pain SOUNDS like panic attacks the pain in the arm, neck, chest ect.... this can be helped with belly breathing 7/11 - Seven Seconds in breathin Eleven Seconds out Breath letting the air fill your belly NOT your chest. Help calm the mind and ease pains.

4. Talk to your parents let them know your concerns.

And if you want to talk to someone about Natural ways to help with this (After you have seen a doc. to rule out anything that may REALLY be wrong) then feel free to PM me and I have TONS!!

Hugs and Love

So do they know what causes the pain is it a nerve problem? I can understand how being in pain all the time can wear you down I have lupus and MVP so I am in pain most of the day almost everyday of my life, but there is ways around it ways to still be happy, you just have to learn and teach yourself that the negitive thoughts you think all day long do nothing but harm you more, it my not feel like harm but in the long run it will do much worse that anything that can happen to your realy body your mind can kill you soul, who you are, what you are, you have to learn to control your mind before the body will follow I hope you feel better really soon,

If you need anyone to talk to I am here

Hi there.

Sorry you're going through this. It's good that you're here.

Do you have any prognosis for the pain you are having that it might go away soon, or is there treatment for it. That would take away the anxiety of being around other people.

Meanwhile, be good to yourself. Don't beat yourself up because of this. It's not your fault that you have anxiety. I think anyone would react like you are under the circumstances.

Keep in touch with your friends on Facebook and when will you be going back to school, in the fall?

I'd see a Medical Doctor about the pains you're having. That's not normal for a young girl (compliment!) like you to have that much pain to deal with, unless you're an old fart like me - 42!

Maybe physical therapy would help. Were you involved in sports or anything that could have caused this to happen?

Back to the anxiety. Try to get out alone if needs be. If you have a park you can go to where there wont be a slew of people, or a mall early in the morning when the old, old folks do their walking around the mall. Walk around and window shop. It sounds like you'll feel more comfortable getting out alone for now, but if you feel like bringing a trusted friend, be sure to let him/her know what's going on for you. Someone that will understand and respect your boundaries. You have to set your boundaries around the pain your having, your anxiety level, and the people around you.

Remember YOU are in charge, despite what is happening to you.

Best of luck,

Cindy

Thanks so much Cindy,

I have gone to a number of Mediacal docs and i have thus far, been diagnosed with RSD, which is nerve pain. I woke up oct. 21 08, thinking i had a sinus infection and a locked neck, and then my pain went all the way down my back...docs dont know what caused it and because of my age it usually takes 3-5 years to be flushed out of my system

the problem with this diagnosis is that it isnt conclusive, usually when docs have run out of answers to why people have this type of pain, RSD is the response.

the other diagnosis that is worse, but fits better is MS, even though i do not have all of the markers, it can take years to diagnose

for my pain i am going to physical therapy 4x a wekk and ocupational therapy 2x because some of my pain is in my left arm and that is my dominent hand, because of the pain i have converted over to doing almost everything with my right hand

thank you so much for your support, and the park idea is awesome!! i definately need to try that

because of how bad my disorder is, if i tried to go to school i would have to buy a moterized scooter to get around my school, which from one end to the other is .5 mile, way to much for me, because of that i am taking all online courses and will get my liberal arts degree from my community college probably a little less than a year after i graduate high school,

hope everyone is feeling calm and peaceful

Nicole
