Hi Rose64 I can't have the Humira shots as I have a low immune system anyway and the shots would give me a ZERO immune system. My regular pain meds no longer work for me not that they really ever took the pain away in the first place, my pain used to be exactly where yours is at the moment but after a steroid injection it seems to have calmed down a lot but my problem now is my spine, neck and shoulders I have a stoop now and the pain is like red hot pokers being jabbed into you and then a sort o...

I'm new to the group, but not to AS. I am 58 years old and first showed symptoms at the age of 10. I was finally diagnosed correctly over 10 years later.

My rheumatologist has said that I have an especially aggressive form of the disease. I have the classic bamboo spine with the 3 lowest vertebrae fused naturally. I have also had 2 cervical vertebrae fused surgically. In addition I have had total joint replacements in both shoulders and both hips. My left knee is going to be replaced nex...

I definitely, definitely can relate! The ankylosing spondylitis was a huge hurdle to diagnose and then treat. The good thing about ankylosing spondylitis, is it can be treated with a TNF blocker such as Humira, Enbrel etc. and you'll get some very effective pain relief that greatly will improve your quality of life. Where it gets complicated and tricky is when you have fibromyalgia mixed into the illness. I have both as well and it sure is a journey. My doctor told me I will never be pain f...

Hi robmj, I new to this site I only found it because I was looking for answers to something else. I have just had a Gastric Bypass done to help take the pressure off my bones as I am overweight and my Doc's said if I didn't have it done I would be in a wheelchair within a year. So I didn't feel that I had any option but to have the surgery. I then wondered if there was anything on here for A.S sufferers and Bingo here it is.

Hi Matt - I've had two injections of Humira - third is scheduled for this Friday, 12/28. How have you felt on them? I felt shaky and like I wanted to jump out of my skin the first day, and very exhausted for two days after that. Let me know, because maybe I'm not reacting normally. The most important thing I've been doing is taking an antioxidant capsule with my regular vitamins - it's basically A, C and E, also Calcium Citrate-D and flax oil. I also bought some of the face masks that keep all t...

Hi there - Nope, it's not normal to feel pain like you do. AS is a young person's disease and your best bet is to see a rheumatologist for specific blood work, x-rays, other simple flexibility tests and background info that will help immensely with your diagnosis. I was in pain for 17 years before I was diagnosed (started when I was 30). Nine doctors, two surgeries, 55-plus back procedures later - I finally found a doc who said, Hey, have you had rheumatoid blood work done? I am on my second...

B) Hello, I have had this affliction since 1985 and I so know what it does to all of us. I was told back in 1985 that I would be in a wheel chair within 2 years, well, it is now 2012 and that has not happen. I contracted polio at the age of 9 months and have had back surgery done 3 times. I now have Osteoporosis in both hips and in my lumbar region. Some days are good days and some not so good. I hope to make some friends here to share thoughts and obtain new ideas....

I started having pain in my left SI and down the back of my leg when I was pregnant with my third child (he's 17 now). I went through several doctors, 55-plus procedures (caudal epidurals, radio frequencies, injections, truFuse surgery...the last doctor I visited - I was just trying to get something for the horrible pain - tramadol - and received a lecture on how pain medications of any kind can kill you...I begged for some help and he sent me to a phsyiatrist - more of a mind-body doc - who ask...

You never have to put on a fake smile for me. I love your truth. I need to hear your words as much as you need to say them. Having to research to find my own diagnosis sucks. I've taken a break from doctors and meds for a while, that sucks, too. It was worse wasting my time and energy to depend on someone who wasn't listening. I know they can be just as frustrated as us, not knowing the cause of our pain...still. My love is with you, my frustration is shared by you... -ChronicArt...
