Trying not to freak out. I have had anemia for a great number of years and have been on and off iron for most of them. I now have an additional complication due to type 2 diabetes of what I call a sluggish GI system, which the iron only makes worse. I'm not old enough to be having these problems! My hemoglobin ran between 10-11 for years. It is now down to 8. I'm having a hysterectomy soon to take care of one probable cause of the bleeding but my hematologist is still very concerned that I have a GI blood loss as well in addition to a well documented iron deficiency. I know what blood in the stool looks like and I do not have it. My concern is that, for whatever reason, my bone marrow can no longer keep up with my blood loss. A little knowledge is a very dangerous thing. |
