 I was told I'm a chronic anemic. im a little confused does that mean i am always going to have low blood , always gong to have to take iron pills , and always going to have blood transfusions ? I wonder if it can be reversed ?

 Journal, no it does not mean that you always going to have anemia, as long as you take your iron as ordered. It is also important to follow up and find out what is causing your chronic anemia. I have had anemia for at least 21 years due to uterine fibroids. My Hemoglobin is now running at 8 and I will be having a hysterectomy very soon. Hopefully, this will take care of my chronic anemia. I have also been referred to a hematologist who has greater concerns of what is causing my anemia and thinks it is "much more than just menstrual bleeding". Being a nurse I have a sneaking suspicion of what they are referring to.

I should have followed up on my chronic anemia over 10 years ago.

 hi.. I have chronic anemia due to kidney failure.. and only have about 10% iron left in my body (based on iron lab test) so am having this year's round of IV iron transfusions. Due to fibro fog and loss of memory from severe concussion, words easily escape me. Does anyone remember the types of iron transfusions that are available? thanks...

 as in the brands?? a think i take ferrlicite (sp?) which will give you a reaction but not a bad one. This goes 1 once a week, 2 bours, 5 weeks. My body doesnt store iron so I get this quit often
