I'm going to bring this up with the hematologist tomorrow but I was wondering if anyone else had this issue. Does anyone know if anemia can cause irregular periods?

I've never been regular except when I was on the pill. I usually only have a handful of periods a year but I just got one after having my first infusion and being on the oral iron pills for a month now. I guess I should also bring up to him any issues with the infusions and pregnancy. I have no children and my husband and I have been talking about it and if my period becomes regular and my sex drive increases again than the possibility of becoming pregnant could be real.

I don't believe so - mine have always been irregular as well - but those are regulated by your hormones and not your blood levels.

Yet God is committed to revealing the weakness of our flesh to us. He wants us to have a leaning heart at the end of the journey. He desires that we would not find our confidence in our commitment to Him but in His commitment to us."

I have been using Merina IUC for 3 years and thought my irregular, spotty periods were from that. Then I was tested for anemia and found out that I had a severe case...even though I had regularly been donating blood without knowing about the anemia--and the techs somehow didn't catch it. But just in the last 4 months while I've been on iron supplements for about 5 months, my periods are occurring quite regularly again! I just researched it also, and yes, it seems quite possible that anemia can cause irregular and skipped periods. Smile
