Hi Victoria. I'm an anaphylactic and I've lived to old age. Talk to your doctor. You might be able to carry liquid antihistamine instead of an epi, and premedicate with it before events to reduce the severity of any reaction. The epipen buys time while you get to the hospital, but for some people a fast-acting antihistamine will work. This was the advice I was given 30 years ago by emergency room MD. It has kept me alive and given me an almost normal life, together with avoidance of high-r...

No, I can have a systemic hives for what seems to me no reason at all. I am allergic to many things now and the sensitivities get worse until we clean out and detox. I am now eating a paleo diet 4 days a week and raw vegan the other 3. I am getting off of medications and no longer need daily Benedryl doses. In cleaning up my diet I have had more symptoms at first and now I am getting better. I also have exercise induced asthma along with the anaphylaxis and love to work out. This all appreared i...

Frannie, our Allergist has been no help either. He finally sent us to the University of Michigan to get some help. It drives me nuts that the doctors don't take us seriously when we complain about these reactions! Praying thye fix this for all of you and my daughter....

Hi Kayye. I had the same reaction to an antibiotic. Turns out to be cephalosporins I am allergic to. Penicillin seems OK. I was wondering..... was the drug you took taken orally? It seems very rare to have an anaphylactic reaction to oral administration of a drug. I am finding it difficult to find people who can relate to what I experienced. I find myself very wary of taking any medications nowadays....

Hi! So sorry for the late reply. I have been very busy with my son's schooling. And this website was giving me problems. Yes, I have noticed and have spoken to others in the similar situation that when our immune system is down, we are more susceptible to attacks. Sleep, food and less-stress is the ideal life for us. We need to find our en balance. See what works for us. What works for others might not work for us. So it is an experiment to find out the best way that we can survive. I carry 2epi...

i recently had an anaphylactic reaction, after a spinal procedure. I know what caused it, as i am sure the surgeon used betadine to scrub my back,i heard him ask for betadine, and i am allergic to iodine, IVP dye, and any contrast. He is blaming the patch, which was tegaderm, I was never allergic to any tape, patch or gauze previously. The Cure is to know what you are allergic to and avoid it. I have not had a reaction in years, as my previous doctors/surgeons did not use iodine on my skin. Also...

This year has been a very challenging year for me. It is also the most rewarding. Being an Idiopathic Anaphylaxis patient for 32 months has certainly opened up my eyes, my mind and my sense of perception of life.

As the year is coming to an end, I hope and pray that each and every one of us will be stronger, healthier and more resilient in 2012.

I would like to share with you in summary on my journey this year:

Hi! I had an anaphylaxis attack 30 months back and life has never been the same since. I have not eaten out in this 30 months now. I react to Salicylates. And now I've seem to be sensitive to other chemicals too. Food with flavourings, colourings, preservatives, additives, MSGs will trigger an attack. I have gone through a lot and am still learning to cope with this condition. I want to share that there is hope and though there are days so bad that I feel like just ending it all, things WILL ge...

Hi - it's me again...

I got many PMs from members asking to upload their own videos. At this point we can't add to the library . but hope we will be able to soon, we understand the importance of that!

and another (not related) topic...Two weeks ago we added to the (now available on chrome too) the Groupon application that shows you the hottest daily deals in your town, every day. We received great feedback from the people using the toolbar so I suggest trying it out!!!

Hi all,

I don't know if this is the right -lace to post this, but has anyone ever thought they were going through anaphylactic shock, only to find out it was something else?

I've never been so grateful for this issue as I was yesterday. I started to hive (time for the ER!) and I went to the nearest hospital.

When I got there, I gave a description of my symptoms and their progression in time. The doctors did a blood test for carbon monoxide, and I was well above the 1.5 maximum safe...

This is a small group, and not that active, but welcome! I am glad your baby hasn't had anymore reactions. I have been only recently diagnosed, and keep tripping over new allergies and trying not to end up in the hospital. There are minimal anaphlactic reaction resources here as well. There is no awareness that I am aware of. I was the one that advocated this groups formation about a year ago. I hope to do more, but the summer is just flying by!

thank you for joining, and welcome.
