MDJunction to me

peasha"This has been one of the most supportive places I have ever been. I found MDJ by mistaking looking for drs to help me with my many health issues and since that day over a year ago I have found a tight nit little family that keeps me going when the times are tough and offers me a place of retreat to share my successes and failures with others. I get to see the humor and seriousness of what I experience as well as the resources to learn about my health conditions. Thanks MDJ" (peasha)

Do you get your clothes altered to fit your 'new body' or do you choose to leave them as they are?

Interesting question. With me,I've inverted my left sleeve, meaning I just tuck it in. Hard to visualize that without seeing a photo. However many a person had asked me what happened? When i tell them i had lost the arm due to cancer they were shocked. They always said, I thought that you broke your arm, sorry! Having inverted my sleeve always threw people off. But, that is me.

I'M a shorts guy here for the regular places I go but if I go to business thing like a bank or a new doctor or if I ever should attend a group thingy or a "date". I would just pin back the pants legs and do in cold winter as it is only a tempory thing for me to date.

I find people think I just have a broken arm when I've inverted my sleeve or just left it hanging. And I hate having to tell people its GONE, not broken. Its uncomfortable for them. I'd rather have my clothes noticeably altered because then there are no questions as to what the problem is. Don't know if that makes sense or not....

Since David is still using his wheelchair, he wears shorts in the summer but when cold weather got here he needed something warmer. I took some sweat pants and cut the legs off, rounded the corners then stitched them up. They sort of look like "footie" shorts lol but keep his legs warm.

I wear shorts whenever and wherever I can, I do not care if people see my prosthetic, I have gotten over the people looking thing. I do however, have an issue with going out without a prosthetic, kinda like going outside naked or something. Since I am a BKA, I have found that pants with the zip off bottoms are a dream come true for us. Makes it so easy to make an adjustment if needed. Just zip off the leg and do what you have to. But like I said, I am a shorts guy.
