Officially dx by a derm back in January of 2009 I have multiple spots of bald scalp and a wide bald swatch across the back of my head. I accept it and let what hair remains to stay and hang over the bare. I bid adieu to the derm and don't do meds. C'est la vie! Wink

sorry Tiffany it took so long for me to holler back...i've had a.a. for i think like 24 years but it didn't go bonkers until late 2008...now I have a big wide patch of bald from ear to ear but hair still growing on top of my head hangs over that area. I kinda expect/plan to go a.t. oneday and that will keep my mundane reaction to a normal level. So I hope!

I had it on and off for 10 yrs...but then it went nuts in 07 and havent had hair since! I dont try meds because the only one that has worked for me is prednisone and I cant stay on that forever!

Hi Jazz,

It depends on the person, and there are a lot of side effects to prednisone. You should not stay on it long term for alopecia. Its used for people with breathing problems like asthma, and I beleive it supresses the immune system. My Dr gave me a high dose once a month and it worked, but many doctors will not do that. Its just not worth the side effects. It is by mouth.

Hi jazzeeB ~ I don't want to poke or mess my bod up with steroids or dccp so I just let alopecia do it's thing and use nothing...just comb hair over the bald. Guess when bald areas get really big and obnoxiously obvious will consider a buzz cut...have done that once before. Already have hats and bandannas ...I'm not one for wigs ~ but that's just me..to each her(his)own! Happy New 2011!
