MDJunction to me

carmen33"When I first came to MDJ, I was in a very dark place, and feeling quite alone, I don't know how I found this site, but I have been very grateful ever since, all of you have offered insight to the illness of Bipolar and the other things going on with me, being here has allowed me to find friends, and to feel safe in discussing things that I would never have shared before.

I believe it has also offered me the chance to reach out and help others. A simple Thank you, is all that I have to offer, to this site and to the wonderful people here.

My dual diagnosis BPI/alcoholic hubby has been trying to stay sober. One thing that he and his therapist talked about is Antabuse, or disulfiram, to help him stay sober. Anyone taken this before? Did it have any effect on your BP meds?

Any thoughts on this would be much appriciated! I also posted this on the BP's dealing with alcoholism board, but thought I might get more of a response here.

I took it back in 1988 but was not on any meds. I had a rare side effect with it. I got psychotic which rarely ever happens. It is good for those starting out sober because it makes you extremely sick if you ingest any alcohol.
You are not drunk unless you have to hang on while lying on the floor.

He is sober right now, knows that the next couple weeks are going to be really hard so wants to be proactive. How long were you on it when you became psychotic? Did you try to drink with it? Also, I wonder if anything has changed about it since then...

I was on it for 2 weeks. It builds up in your system. NO! Never drank with it. It could kill you.
