for fatty liver, what we are told is essentially, - stop drinking and eat healthy. no specific treatments are available, we are told.

i'm tempted to try Chinese herbal tea that i read on varioius websites.

Has anybody tried such?

Everything we've been told to date....do not take supplements unless approved by your hepatologist. I would assume this is the same with fatty liver. The internet praises Milk Thistle as a liver detox. Asked Jim's doctor and he said it was our decision. Some seem to get relief but he thought it was miniscule but would not be harmful. He takes his lactulose, xixfaxin and then healthy diet...four small meals a day, at least.

Hey forehand!

I agree with MommaMac about supplements, only take what your doctor approves. You never know what else may be mixed with the particular compound you are thinking about taking and some of those "extra ingredients" may be liver toxic. Also there is no guarantee, since the FDA does not inspect supplements, that the compound is even in the tablet, powder or liquid that is marketed.

Also remember that alcoholic fatty liver is a bit different than fatty liver disease. With alcoholic fatty liver you are in the first stage of ALD. The best cure, yes "cure" for this stage is to abstain from liquor completely. Fatty liver disease is often caused by poor lifestyle as well--bad diet, being overweight... The treatment for early fatty liver disease is to lose weight and/or change your diet. Like MM said, supplements provide little or no benefit to either type of fatty liver.

Is the risk worth the small possibility of small, temporary, relief?
