With that attitude you won't get well. If you view yourself as disabled you simply won't get well.

I have PTSD and other disabilities. For some it is a real disability.

I know I won't get well enough to be normal. Agoraphobia is something that we will always have.. we just have to deal with it. It is a real disability.

I do think agoraphobia is disabling. I cannot even go to stores even accompanied by someone. I sure as hell can't go on a vacation. I wouldn't even dream of it. I am not saying it's not awful or disabling or anything like that. All I am saying is for those who have someone stable in their life, be grateful that they are there. That you're not left for the crows. This is a something that can get better, but you have to have the right attitude. I am not a victim, I am doing this to myself. I need to better learn to handle my anxiety. All agoraphobia is, is poorly managed anxiety. This is how I feel, I am not talking for anyone but myself. I've been far better than this before, I can and will get there again.

Everyone is at different levels with their agoraphobia. You might not be able to do some things that I can, and vice versa. Just because I can do a little bit more than you doesn't mean I am not agoraphobic and I don't need help.

I'm an Advocate

My day! Had to go 15 miles to new shrink in the weather pictured below. My AA was through the roof, worst ever! Then I had to wait 30 minutes in the waiting room. I loved the new doc though, really cool! So then to the pharmacy to fill all the scripts, at least the weather cleared. Had to wait 20 minutes for that so I shopped and bought all crap, I love it! Then I had to go sign a new lease and pay the rent. Got home, finally, put away the groceries, and then took out the trash and checked the mail. Guess who will be drinking and pill popping tonight? Guess?

My sister took this picture, but that's exactly how it looked when I left!

Hi Whitney!!! Good to see you post too! I hope your eyes are a bit better today. I have been hiding in the bushes scaring my neighbors! lol

Sorry about the lousy news Mimi. This whole disability debate is hard to deal with sometimes. When we think of the disabled we usually associate it with physical limitations. Yet here we are walking, jumping, going places... and yet! Agoraphobia is incredibly disabling. I lost all my years of university because of it. Working was out of the question. It killed me inside. I had great promise and no means of fulfilling it. Kills me to this day. I think for the sake of recovery we need to think of it as temporary disability. We MUST have hope. That does not mean we don't deserve help like anyone with physical ailments. Mental illness, or disorders (if you prefer) are just as real as physical ones. The barriers are there. I can go on vacations, I can go to lunches and malls and yet after all these fricking years I can't go farther than driving 5 minutes from my home. Mind you some years ago I was doing better!! So always have hope!! Anyway, that is my view on the subject. Labels are only necessary as far as physicians and government are concerned. We need NOT associate with them. We have temporary insanity!!! lol Tongue

Anyway.. I had a great lunch with bro and now I am finishing dinner for the wolves!
