Yoga has been practiced for more than 5,000 years, and currently, close to 11 million Americans are enjoying its health benefits. Yoga can hardly be called a trend.

Most Westernized yoga classes focus on learning physical poses, which are called asanas. They also usually include some form of breathing technique and possibly a meditation technique as well. Some yoga classes are designed purely for relaxation. But there are styles of yoga that teach you how to move your body in new ways. Choosing one of these styles offers the greatest health benefits by enabling you to develop your flexibility, strength, and balance.

Why not give it a try?? Here are a few videos I found. Feel free to add your own. Smile

I've been practicing yoga regularly for months now, even doing poses supposedly to help alleviate anxiety and depression, no such luck. Then again when I exercise, which is supposed to help it, too , it doesn't. Sad

What works for some doesn't for others I wish it worked for me! I've read about all these things that bring success to both anxiety and depression and have yet to find something that works for me.

I do know that if I am totally anxious, not panic attack but anxious, dancing REALLY helps. Loud music and movement. I think it's the music more than anything.

I'm sorry those things don't help you Whitney. I know that saying is very true. What works for some... won't always work for others. That's very strange that loud music helps you relax. You would think it would do the opposite. But whatever works for you.. go for it! I know some people on here practice meditation so I thought a few yoga poses would be helpful. When you do/ did yoga, did you feel any positive changes at all?

Yah I thought it was weird, too but I think the music distracts me. The only positive changes I've gotten from yoga was better balance and increased flexibility. Who knows, maybe I'm doing it wrong? Lol! Like working out I like what it does for my body but my mind doesn't seem to benefit much from it. Sad

So it's the music? Well what if you tried doing poses without the music playing in the background? Do you know any of them by heart?

You're welcome Tina! Smile I hope this gets you going! I am going to start *again* Hopefully I can keep it going everyday.. I do believe that is the hardest part...

Lol! No music/dancing distracts me from my anxious thoughts. Yoga I do without music. I need to try harder at working on my breathing with yoga. I never can remember to do that. Proper breathing with yoga is just as important as the poses. I have this huge yoga book that talks about different breathing with different positions and the benefits to each pose along with detailed illustrations. It's a great book (if you can get past the man bulge in some of the pictures) HAHA.

Oh! Ha ha I read that wrong sorry. I get it now. I used to dance around my living room allll the time and it does make you feel good! Sadly I don't do it anymore.. Jelly rolls get in the way! Wink I have 2 yoga dvds and a little tiny book that I got from B&N - but it's so small, I can't read the writing! I was thinking about taking an actual yoga class this summer if I can get someone to go with me, maybe my sister. They say that you shouldn't learn yoga alone... doctors.. pshhh! What do they know??

How weird, I just started doing yoga today! It's definitely not as easy as it looks. I love it so far though!
