MDJunction to me

saralaurie"In the 3 months I have been with MDJunction I have developed a sense of calmness. I now friends who do not judge me because I have been a mental mess at times. It is such a good feeling to have friends I can tell my deepest thoughts and always get back to me with their support. I have never seen a therapist for long periods of time. Right or wrong, this is the best therapy possible for me. Thanks Roy for getting this up and running and making such a difference in my life. Sara" (saralaurie)

Hi elinor.

A few months ago, I traveled from Ontario, Canada to Spain. Although I have flown many times in the past, I was still having constant panic thinking about flying.

My trick was to completely focus all my attention on my daughter. I talked to her constantly about the trip we were about to take and all the fun things we were going to do while we were there. That helped because it helped prepare me for what was about to happen.

I know you said it is a school trip and you don't know anyone too well, I am assuming that you do have at least one friend who is traveling as well, and you could stick to them and make them your travel buddy.

Another thing that I have found that has helped me in the past is reading the magazines on the plane. I start reading them the second I get settled in my seat and make myself focus on what I'm reading until I feel myself calming down.

If you cannot seem to calm yourself down, talk to a airline attendant. They deal with people with panic all the time and have been trained with techniques to help.

Wishing you the best! Just try to sit back and relax, flying is actually enjoyable once the panic goes away.

well i'm back and i have to say it wasn't that bad. The first day was the worst and eating in a group was a struggle but overall i'm glad i went. Turns out flying isnt so bad after all. That friend that was supposed to be supporting me wasn't so great and i think at one point we could have killed each other but we should get over it. Morocco is a beautiful country, just dont go around marrakesh on your own if your female.

Elinor,

Congratulations on making the trip! I'm glad it wasn't bad for you. That's one of those "what if" things, and then we find out it wasn't as bad as what we anticipated. You've got an experience now that you will have memories of, and that you can definately be proud of! Great job!! HUGS

Please do not take anything I say as medical advice. I am not a doctor.
