MDJunction to me

Hazeldee"MDJunction means that I no longer have to feel like I am the only person in
the world with pericarditis. It means that I can talk to others who know
how stressful and how painful having pericarditis can be. It means that I
connect with others to discuss treatments that have or haven't worked for us, so that we have a leg to stand on. I think that having my friends at
MDJunction has allowed me to better mentally and emotionally process my
diagnosis and what it means to me. I feel so lucky to have this community
available to me. I use MDJunction as a way to use my experience to help
others. Reaching out to help others is the only solace I have found since
being diagnosed with pericarditis.

Having an anual eye exam will let us know if there are any changes in vision.

Remove small throw rugs or secure them to the floor with double sided tape.

Place non-slip mats or strips in the bathtub and shower.

Have grab bars installed inside the tub and next to the toilet.

Remove things you can trip over from walking areas and stairs.

Keep a flashlight by your bed.

Add lighting to darker areas and light switches at the top and bottom of stairs and at both ends of hallways.

Keep a cordless phone nearby.

Periodically meet with your primary doctor to review prescriptions, vitamins and herbal supplements. Ask about lowering doses of certain drugs that can impair your balance.

Boost your balance with tai chi, yoga, or swimming classes.

Focus on strengthening your legs while you're sitting watching TV or at the kitchen table.

Straighten one leg and gently lift it off the ground to a height that's comfortable for you. Hold for 10 seconds, put that leg down and do the other leg.

As we get older, no longer can we "catch" ourselves as we used to be able to when we were younger.

Our bones are not as strong either, so not falling is important. It doesn't take much to break a hip and we do not want that to happen.
