The majority of older adults will become senile (defective memory, disoriented, demented) during old age.

Answer: False - Contrary to popular sterotype, dementia is not a normal part of aging or inevitable. Statistics will vary depending on the study, but most estimate that approximately 2-3 percent of older adults in their seventies experience some form of dementia, 5-10 percent of older adults in their eighties, and may jump to between 20-30 percent of older adults in the nineties. These statistics include mild as well as severe forms of dementia. Research concerning not only the treatment but prevention of dementia is ongoing and promising.

In 1969, Dr. Robert Butler coined the term “ageism” to describe this process of systematic stereotyping and discrimination against older persons.

I'll be posting more stereotypes so we know the differences between fact and stereotyping fiction. The more knowledge we have the better expectations we can have also.

I saw this and wondered what age do you consider old age as...lol

I am sometimes like a kid who has never grown up at times-simple pleasures are the best

Some days, physically speaking I wake up and feel like am 80-lol

I think of Maxine as I say my mental notes are now written down so I don't forget but then I misplace paper I wrote it on, and off my mind wanders as I forget things-lol

All I say is from own experiences, truthful from my point of view-I have positive outlook on life. I try to be helpful, am a good listener, am an outgoing people person.

Smile, God loves you!

THINK POSITIVE...things could be WORSE!

The age I consider to be old is the next day because I am older than the day before and just a little older than my teeth!
