People with Still's disease please answer this question:

- How much cow milk do you drink per day?

I was diagnosed for a Still's disease. After 6 months of taking Prednisone everything got back to normal. I also had to reduce the amount of milk I drink everyday.

Usually Still's disease happens to kids. Kids usually drinks a lot of milk. I am trying to find some relation between the two.

Thanks for answering my question, hopefully this helps determine the cause of the disease.

This is an interesting question. I personally do not drink much milk and was rarely including it in my diet when I was diagnosed with AOSD about a year ago. I generally stick to substitutes such as soy or rice products. I do live in a small town in a more rural area. I have wondered if there is a correlation with AOSD and farm chemicals or pesticides. I do not know if there is any correlation but think it is possible being that Stills is likely caused environmentally. Any thoughts on this idea? On the same idea, many milk cows are injected with antibiotics and hormones and could be around other farming chemicals so maybe there could be something there.

Oh, I see what you're saying. So maybe it is caused environmentally and in some cases via the milk. Other than that I don't know, I always lived in big cities.

But another possible cause for me is maybe "too much work": 7 days per week and sometimes sleeping for 3 hours/day for several days. This might be agressive to the body so it respond in inflamatory reaction. Any thoughts on this idea?

I, personally don't believe it has something to do with milk but it could be a reaction of your body to the stress your workload puts on it. Before I got diagnosed I had two extremely stressful years, very little sleep, even depression at some point. I used to get ill all the time, and nothing serious but just constant colds, runny nose, etc. In my case, the first symptoms of Still started with a bacterial infection which causes pneumonia but the antibiotics didn't help against the fever. My theory is that due to stress and exhaustion the response of my body to the infection got completely wrong. But we can only guess the causes. What's important here is to get better.

Good luck!

I also had my first symptom similar to yours and antibiotics didn't help. And I also had a stressful year.

Stress and too much work was my 2nd guess for a cause of this disease. I hope others will reply so we can determine if all the cases are related to stress and too much work.

I believe my first rheumatologist did state that stress can trigger a flare of stills. I think that I had been experiencing symptoms caused by AOSD a couple of years before I had a major flare and Stress did seem to be a trigger for these symptoms.

So Mackenzie81 you think that the stress only trigger the symptoms of the disease but did not cause it.

Please let me ask you, do you usualy have a stressful or hyperactive life? (this is me since I was young).

I do not know if stress can cause Stills or if it only induces a flare in someone who already has the disease. What I do know is that when I first started having symptoms and later when I had the flare that hospitalized me that I was suffering unusual amounts of stress. I have always been a busy person and of course had normal day to day stress at my job or with family etc. but not to the degree that I had prior to having my first symptoms or likely mini flares or like when I had a severe one. I was very active and consciences of my health prior to getting seriously ill. I was around 27 when I think I started having symptoms and 29 when officially diagnosed. I feel like when I am under high stress now that my symptoms are worse. I think that stress definitely is a factor that may tie most or all stills patients and think it would be great if they could find out if it could be a cause as well. I think it is very possible but at this time there is unfortunately not nearly enough studies completed on this subject to know for sure.
