MDJunction to me

jenniferdiva"MDJunction has been just an amazing support for me. The people who are on mdj are so nice! Unlike the many other support sites that I have been on. I have made several friends on mdj who are so supportive and so educated about mental illness. Of course non of us are doctors, but we certainly offer each other hugs, opinions, and advice. I have learned a great deal from my friends on mdjunction. I am also encouraging other people who suffer from mental illness to come on to MDJ. It can be a life line." (jenniferdiva)

Hey Monica

I have a paper from the University of Sheffield UK that talks about curve matching sort of. Not so much on stress dosing though. I cant find much in that except "find out what works".

Hi,

rnoble … you're question is addressed to Bob, right?

Bob, I'm getting so frustrated with the sressdosing trial & error! I've been circling the drain of a crisis since 7/25. Stress dosed for a week & got BP up to 111/78. Held steady for a few days then bada boom … here we go again. It's this dang feeding tube & not being able to eat ANYTHING. Not getting enough sodium, so I'm supplementing with Thermotabs. My BP avg today is 80/51, HR 70. I took an extra 10 of HC @ 7:30PM last night (norm pm dose is 10 mg) & when I took my BP @ 11:30pm, it had DROPPED! ?? 79/48

My protocol is : 6:30-7:00 AM : 20MG HC, .1 MG FC, 1 Thermotab prn; Was taking my PM dose @ 6:00, but as of yesterday changed it to 4:00PM: 10MG HC, .1FC, 1 Thermotab.

I just need a bag of fluids hooked up to me every 3 days to hang off my feeding bag/IV pole. It's been looked into, because my GI Dr here said that I didn't qualify for home health because I'm ambulatory. ????? Because I can drive myself to Dr's appts … barely. Because I Look Good? Arrrrgh!

August is going to be a month of being hospital free! I'm almost there … I CAN DO IT, I CAN DO IT, I CAN DO IT *clicking heels together as I say it*

I am on a feeding tube as well and I don't qualify for home health care anymore and you can do it, you really can! I see you are on florinef. there are also salt tablets you can get. 79/48 would put me in the hospital and I would be passed out, I don't know how you are coping, you must be really, really strong. I am in awe! Take care of yourself and make those doctors listen to you!
Diagnosed with primary Addisons at age 46 almost died before it was diagnosed. Then told by Mayo Doctors in 2011 that I have secondary. Take HC 30.0 a.m. and 10 mg at noon and 10 mg at 4 p.m. 100 mcg Synthroid. Stress dose with Hydrocortisone for emergencies and carry a Solu-Cortef injection for emergencies. Also take 50,000 Units Vitamin D 3x wk and potassium 15 ml once per day. On pain meds Fentanyl patch 50 mcg and Hycrodone APAP 15 mL every four hours. I love this site and am so grateful for all of you!

From experience I have found that HC can give you a dual BP change direction depending on the situation. Generally if you are BP and cortisol low it will raise it through vaso constriction and eventually water+mineralocorticoid. I have however found that the anti-inflammatory effect can also lower it if things are BP high. I noticed this for example when I had chest/asthma issues so I guess some kind of muscle relaxation takes place.. I havent found any papers etc that back this up, it just seems to happen to me.

I would suspect that you need a lot more HC either for a temporary situation or permanent. BG will also be a good indicator of a too low HC dose but of course you have to eat as well!

Terri … It's the sheer will of trying to stay OUT of the hospital this month, I guess. Otherwise, I'm a slug with barely the energy to mix my formula every 6 hrs for my feeding tube & get up to let the dogs out. I was supposed to go earlier in week to EndoC for labs & couldn't pull it together to do so. SHAME ON ME!!!!!!!

Bob … I think you hit on something with BG. My EndoC said he wanted to ck BG levels when he talked to me on the phone. I'll crawl into his office Monday morning, if that's what I have to do!

I think while I'm on this feeding tube, I'm going to require a higher dose of HC. Tongue WHOA! I just cked my BP & it was 87/57, HR 72 …highest reading of the week! I took 20mg of HC on the pm dose tonight. My mind is bouncing around like Tigger, too! LOL

Thanks Teri & Bob for your input & support! Smile

Oh no, A Winnie the Pooh person! <grin> I see you have changed your pic? (I still get furballs!)

You have to think about your fatigue and BG timings too. Like if you only feel bad in the afternoons and the BG is low then, you probably wont see that in a morning BG test.

HA, yes, I like Pooh. Wink I'll probably change my profile Pic to UK WILDCATS before too much longer. Laughing

I hear what your saying, but that slump is harder to pinpoint when I'm on a feeding tube 24/7. I feel a slump frequently during day. So, maybe I'll wait until mid-morning to get the blood work.
