MDJunction to me

neshama48"Having Crohn's Disease for over 26 years, in the first few years, it lonely and isolating.
Though now my disease is in a near perfect remission, my friends and family are sympathetic to me, but I can not talk to them about this disease. When I stumbled across MD Junction, and met others who had the same disease I was not alone in battling the disease. MD Junction is like a second family, without the judgement or guilt of having Crohn's Disease, but they do give you love and support.

Hi everyone, well sick as anything right now. Think it's sinusitis but it brought on a horrible asthma attack and so landed in the ER 4 am Christmas morning. Waiting to get into the doc tomorrow. ER wanted to give me extra steroids but I doubled up on the pred instead. It's always a tricky thing with stress dosing isn't it.

That'll teach me to brag, I was just saying I felt healthier than I have in many, many years and then pow. But it's the nature of the beast and at least now when it happens I know I'll go through a rough patch and come out the other side feeling good eventually.

Hope everyone is having a better time with the holidays than I am, Happy New Year to everyone.

Deb

I'm glad to share my experience, but I am not a doctor and you should always consult your own physician.

I'm hypopituitary (SAI and hypothyroid) caused by a pituitary cyst. Taking 7.5 mg prednisone and 75 mcg synthroid daily.

Doc isn't in today, but on the phone said 30 mg prednisone for two days, twenty two days, 10 for two days, and then back down to regular dose on the seventh day. Wants to see me tomorrow. Haven't done this before, hope it doesn't raise my bp.

What is it about this time of year? I, too, have been sick since Thanksgiving with respiratory crud. The endo had me do the same thing, triple dose for 3 days, then double dose. I needed 2 rounds of antibiotics so would you believe that I just finished my double dosing! (did you see my song about tapering?) Best wishes - and Happy Holidays - may we all have a much better New Year!!

I am hypopituitary. I take prednisone (supplement with HC), levothyroxine, estrogen, growth hormone and DHEA.

so sorry to hear that you have been sick. I have not been on the site in quite some time, but I have been thinking about everyone. I have wanted to share that I have been taking a growth hormone since October... I think it was October. Needless to say, It has made a TREMENDOUS difference in my energy level. My doctors had mentioned that I was low, but hesitated for various reasons. Once we decided to try it, the meds took about a month before I began to notice the difference, but WOW!!! it is so wonderful to be able to come home and still be able to do a few things before crashing. I just hope this may help someone else. If anyone out there is thinking about it, try it. It REALLY helped me.

Now back to you. Hope you get well quick.

I've often thought of the gh treatment, my endo offered it to me. I'm scared though because my family is rife with cancer and I was worried about that. Both my parents died of it, grandparents on both sides, aunts, uncles, it goes on and on. So I'm almost grateful not to have growth if that makes sense. The weird thing is, without the gh you would expect I would not be able to grow muscles and I've been working out and I'm definitely stronger and have developing biceps. So if I ever did decide to do that I'd probably ask for testing again because my own levels seem not to be at zero as they told me.

Well just got back from the doc. The dx is cold-induced asthma but could be cold as in temperature (was lightly jogging to the car in below freezing when it first started); or cold as in a virus that kick started the asthma. No signs of bronchitis or sinus. I'm on 30 mg pred today, taper down to 20 tomorrow and the next day; and then ten for two days and then back to my normal 7.5. Add to that the aldosterone in the nebulizer treatments and I'm seriously wired/jittery and that appetite - want to eat the house down! Not good when there are still holiday goodies around especially, I'm tempted to throw out the bag of homemade cookies right now but I think I'd have a mutiny on my hands if I did. I gained 3 lbs since last Wed when I got weighed this am. I haven't told you in a while, but I was up to a 57 pound loss last week...it takes forever to come off but goes on in such a hurry!

At least I slept last night though, lying down, and that's a good thing. For two nights I had not been able to breath when I got into bed. So things are looking up.

So sorry to hear about your ER visit! I've had exercise (-in-the-cold, especially)-induced asthma since junior high. I am very athletic, but I always had to run/walk long distance runs in junior high (and still beat everyone) because my lungs would get clogged and I had trouble breathing. I used to complain about it, but nobody listened (probably didn't believe me and thought I was just whining, as kids do). As an adult, that type of reaction (after running in the cold even a little bit) will turn into bronchitis due to the inflammation that results. Hasn't happened for a while, but extra dosing with my cortef helped prevent total loss of voice/lung clogging.

(Fwiw, I don't usually run long distance voluntarily, but I did 1x last year, trying to motivate my teenager to run (he plays soccer but doesn't exercise). I tried running around a park with him, so I was running as hard as I could to keep up with his long legs, before accepting I couldn't, and I slowed down. The next day I ended up in the ER from some extreme reaction (at the time, I didn't note the possible connection to running, but who knows) of shaking and dizziness (along with tingling/numb fingers, so the Medcheck made me go to the ER)).

Dear Deb,

Sorry to hear about your asthma & your Christmas day ER visit. I hope you are feeling much better! You are such an amazing, strong, inspirational person. I love reading your posts & your advice! And I'm so proud of you - 57 pound weight loss is a great accomplishment especially when you are on steroids as long as you've been! You probably overdid it & it was brought on by the cold/running. I hope you can keep getting good sleep & feeling better! Please keep us posted on your condition. And don't feel guilty eating all those yummy holiday cookies! That's what they are there for & it only happens once a year!! LOL

Feel better

Love & prayers,

Angela
