I went in today for my first visit with my GP since I've been diagnosed. He has been my doctor for 20 years now, since right after the birth that caused the problems, so he knows me well. He asked what the endo had said and when I told him Sheehan's Syndrome it was literally like a light bulb turned on. LOL He said he has read and studied about Sheehan's off and on for years but never seen a case, since it is so extremely rare. I told him he has his own case study now. Wink

We talked about how looking back it all fits together so perfectly now. I really think that the episode I had back in 2006 was an adrenal crisis but at the time they couldn't see it. Even the awful elbow pain I had during that time fits in, but we kept thinking it had to be something unrelated to everything else.

My BP at the visit was 112/70, so that was good, but even better was that my temperature was 98.4!!! I don't ever remember my temp being near normal. It's usually 96 or 97 something. And this morning while exercising I actually had sweat! LOL I rarely sweat!

Maybe I'm getting near normal? Shocked

Hi Rhonda

All of us are redefining "normal", or "Its people like us that gives 'normal' a bad name"

My recent GP visit also saw the doc kind of excited. First AI patient she had seen in a real practice..

Please remember that accurate answers often need detailed source information. Please considering putting your DX status, drug dosage and other information into your "About Me" or Signature Line. That also includes what country you are in because measurement systems and diagnostic methods vary around the world.

Does her (and also mine) elevated temperatures and BP's mean that we're taking the right amount of HC?

Yeah, that is a good question. Mine is usually 96.8-97. When I am sick, I don't have a fever so they dismiss me as having an infection. Right now I have MRSA acquired after arthroscopic knee surgery. I'm having the worst time getting a doctor to treat it because I'm not running an fever and they think my elevated white count is because of the steroids. After so much ill health, I have lost faith in the health care. I have been so sick, adrenal crisis (better now), but still hitting the wall with this infection. I have cellulitis and blistered lesions and today the Infectious Disease Doctor wants me to go off all antibiotics and see what happens? That doesn't make sense at all.... arrrrrrgggggghhhhhhhhh!

In exclusion of other factors yes. The 98.2 optimal temperature is where the body chemical systems are most efficient at and the right BP is an indication of correct water volume.

Immune response also needs higher cortisol levels. Often if I suspect an infection I'll take a single dose extra of maybe 10-20mg. If that triggers an immune response and fever I'll go to full triple dosing, if not I'll ramp down again. My Texas pulmo gave me a chest infection action plan thats starts at 50mg of Pred on top of my HC. Thats 6x stress!

Before I got started on thyroid meds my body temp was very, very low - averaged around 95 -96 I think. Sometimes it went slightly below 95, a very dangerous situation. My heart rate was also very slow - in the 40's first thing in the am, made me feel breathless at times! Now it's up to the mid 50's, much better, and my body temp is hovering around 97-98. I can live with that! I do find if I don't exercise for a few days it starts going back down, I think that exercise helps keep the metabolism in gear.

I'm glad to share my experience, but I am not a doctor and you should always consult your own physician.

I'm hypopituitary (SAI and hypothyroid) caused by a pituitary cyst. Taking 7.5 mg prednisone and 75 mcg synthroid daily.

I have noticed that I'm not quite so cold as I was just a few weeks ago. I'm really hoping that it continues for the winter. These northern PA winters are terrible on me. I can never get warm, no matter how many layers I pile on. My feet are usually so cold that they're numb. Hopefully this winter is better! We had actually been talking about moving south because it's been so bad the past few years.

I freeze all the time, they have upped my thyroid medicine twice. I am hoping my new dose will now help me get through the northern Indiana freezing winter. I love Indiana and the changing seasons I hate to move somewhere warmer, but it might have to be something I consider. My Endo told me to buy a down coat to wear and stay warm no matter what that I will just have this problem. I'm allergic to down so bought a synthetic down coat lol Smile
Diagnosed with primary Addisons at age 46 almost died before it was diagnosed. Then told by Mayo Doctors in 2011 that I have secondary. Take HC 30.0 a.m. and 10 mg at noon and 10 mg at 4 p.m. 100 mcg Synthroid. Stress dose with Hydrocortisone for emergencies and carry a Solu-Cortef injection for emergencies. Also take 50,000 Units Vitamin D 3x wk and potassium 15 ml once per day. On pain meds Fentanyl patch 50 mcg and Hycrodone APAP 15 mL every four hours. I love this site and am so grateful for all of you!
