What are the differences between the sexes in ADHD?

Do women/men present symptoms differently?

That is an extremely good, not to mention interesting, question. I will do some research and try to find some information.

The above is a link to a wegbpage that discusses the issue. Although I did not read it entirely, the paragraphs I did read were mostly about diagnosis and that boys are dx'd more than girls. It does also address the issue with adults as well but I didn't get that far yet. It looks like a very good read and I wanted to get the link for this posted before I got too involved reading it and then forget to post it.

I hope this helps.

From my experience, my male friends who have ADHD are so different it's unreal.

One of them used to be on Ritalin and was obsessed in his perverted nature but could provide some intelligent facts that someone like me never knew about. He was very random in his emotions and usually had these random ideas before suddenly pausing and looking unmoved before breaking out into a manic laugh.

The other is always smiling and randomly talking to strangers who he never knew talking about things they themselves may have been confused about.

Unlike my other friend he stuck at the hobbies he loved...maybe even with OCD elements...but none of them have common sense in terms of thinking strange (dangerous) ideas would work.

I think I have ADHD elements in myself too, because unlike Aspergers where they cannot contemplate making changes in their lifestyle or hobbies. I actually EMBRACE changes and hate being stuck on one thing for too long. I...slightly lose attention to things that either don't interest me or I don't consider them as important. So I don't know if I have ADHD symptoms in my Aspergers.

Regarding whether females with ADHD are the same as males, I would say most of the characteristics are the same...but from my experience, males with ADHD DO try to bring their attention to subjects in their classes (my ADHD friends were dedicated to German/Karate respectively)...but that is from my experiences with males only.

Talk to me about anything, but please don't expect me to sort out your problems as I have my own.

I have Aspergers, social anxiety, some form of Tourettes and Trich. I suspect I have traces of ADHD/ADD (my two closest friends have ADHD).
