grandmasylvia"MDJ has been "a soft place to fall" for me as Dr Phil says. I have this very painful rare disease Dercum's Disease and take comfort in finding others here who share their knowledge and compassion. Many
members have helped me just by understanding my anguish and validating
my pain. We are working together to encourage research toward a cure.

My name is Nikki, and i am a Mommy to 3 year old Jon and 4 month old Sebastian. My oldest Jon was diagnosed with autism at 15 months. He was just recently diagnosed as having ADHD as well....

Has anyone heard of such a thing?

I am in need of a lot of advice, as I feel so completely lost when I comes to my special little boy!

Hi Nikki,

Yes it is a common thing for ADHD to be a second diagnosis to Autism. ADHD is usually dully diagnosed. My son was diagnosed with ADHD at 3 years old also. He suffered from Meningitis at 13 months. I'm quite confident the Meningitis intensified his ADHD. He was started on Adderall at 3, a very low dose, but it was a very good choice for him. He's extremely smart, if not medicated in his "formative" years, I would have lost him when it comes to learning and school.

Hello and welcome. My 5 yr old little boy is autistic and also has ADHD. Autism is a complex diagnosis hence the "spectrum" we hear so much about. There are a lot of co-morbid attachments to autism ADHD seems to be the most common though. Along with ADHD, my son also has OCD.

My advice is free, completely anecdotal, and comes from my own experience. Always talk to your doctor before you change anything.
