I started seeing a therapist (PhD actually) and brought up that I think I have ADD, both my brother and sister have it and I really think I do too. But he says that fact that I finished college with no meds means I probably don't. He tends to forget I got kicked out of school in the 6th grade, I'm very impulsive, do stupid things.all the time because my impulsivity can be bad-.I just don't care if I get in trouble, until I do. I recent had an affair just for my constant seeking high thrills. In the end it made me suicidal though. Not proud of my actions there, thankfully I have a great husband. I can't read a book, can't go to the theatre to watch a movie cause I get too bored. Ugh, anyways. I can't let anyone in my house because I have never been able to clean and organizer, I have no motivation for that except once in awhile where I'll go on a cleaning spree.

I'm finally getting treatment for my anxiety and depression (effexor and klonopin).

So what do I tell him? I see him tomorrow.

I would ask him what the problem is if he has ruled out ADD. Just because you made it through college doesn't mean that there is nothing wrong. Describe your symptoms in great detail and ask him to explain to you what your diagnosis is, if if isn't ADD. There ix obviously something going on.

Good luck and if you don't have any success with this doctor, go for a seco d opinion.

Thank you all for the thoughtful replies. I made detailed list as u suggested and he understood more where I was coming from. He is thinking now.depression/anxiety with possible ADHD.

He wants me on me AD for a couple more weeks just to make sure the anxiety/depression isn't causing adhd symptoms. Said he's not quick to diagnose adhd, which I think is probably good. He said it does sound likely at this point though. He gave me a couple book recommendations to read about adult ADHD as well: Taking Charge of Adult ADHD by Barkley and Driven to Distraction by Hallowell.

So I'm going back in 3 weeks for some additional testing and talking about it before he makes an official diagnoses.
