Are children who show signs of ADHD considered handicapt or problem children?

The reason I am asking is because my 5 yr old attends preschool and daycare, and just the other day I was told by the daycare owner that I needed to get help or see a counsler for my son because he is a trouble child. He had lead poisoning when he was a year old and is currently on medication. Can any one give me some advice on how to handle this situation.

First, you don't have a "problem child". Children with ADHD usually have low self esteem, so please don't let him think he is a "problem". Under social security Attention Deficit Disorder is considered a "mental illness". Find out the guidelines for the school/daycare and see about working with the teachers to create a healthy strucered learning inviroment for your child.
