Hi, my name is Lisa(lala) and I have been clean for 9 months from heroin. Addiction has controlled my life for the last three years, and now that I have stopped using, it is still a part of my everyday life. Everything I do is centered around staying clean. The addiction never leaves you, you just find a way to live with it. Give it the respect it deserves, because the second you think it is gone, that is when it will take you over again. Never make the mistake of thinking it is all under control. Addiction recovery is a daily uphill battle. You just can't let it win. Lala

congratulations lisa!! you are doing great and should be very proud of yourself. and yes you are so very right that the addiction can sneak up on you again the minute you think it is gone. the "just one more" or "i've kicked and won't be stupid enough to get rehooked" are the destruction of many quits

Doesn't everyone deserve true love?

Hi Lisa and welcome to the group. Congratulations on getting clean and having 9 months sobriety.

Your right, recovery is a life long process. I had to find a balance between home life, work and recovery. When I first went to meetings, it was all of the time....almost like a new addiction for me......my family life suffered and I had to find a way to balance it all out.....for my own sake.

Addiction is sneaky and is waiting for the right moment to rear it's ugly head. It is waiting for you to feel down or comfortable in your recovery so it can get you back in its grips. Switching addictions is another thing you have to becareful of. I have found myself doing that....going from one to another....even healthy addictions.

Thanks for posting. Have a good day, Chris

Your Friend, Chris
