for those are have recovered or are recovering, i have a question. what is the most difficult time to counter the urge to relapse?

is it an everyday urge? is it simply being in the presence of the substance? a specific social setting? stressors from your personal or professional life?

right now very early on in my own recovery, i'd say that it is the psychological desire to drink. it had gotten very engrained, and habitual. that is the most frequent. maybe the most difficult is when stress from work sends me back to depression, wanting to self medicate.

Many times we encounter "triggers". Triggers can be different things for different ppl. Like my doc (drug of choice) was cocaine. So here's some Triggers. The SONG..Cocaine.

Ok, another one, running into someone you used to party with. Now when they offer a lilttle to me, I just tell them I am so squeaky clean that I am helping others, they haven't come back since! lol And another trigger for me,

TV shows that center around cocaine like the movie SCARFACE with Al Pachino and Blow with Johnny Depp, and then there's the "TALK SHOWS like Dr. Phil, and Maury Povich and Well I can't think of his name now DANG! anyway you get my drift. Even just going past a house you bought from whether it's opperitive now or not, a Trigger is like a MEMORY,

and for many people i's the psychological habit that's hard to break, like smoking cigs.

I just try avoiding these triggers but with TV and Music...we can't always do that.

Best to you seabass, at least you admit and address! Love you for it!

well seabass triggers can be all that you mentioned all that frenchie mentioned and so many more. some are common, being in close proximity of a drink or whatever, so are very individualistic. for example, there was this car lot that for some reason got mixed into my drinking process. i knew if i went in one direction i would be drinking, hyponotically, the other no problem. i avoid that car dealership now.

in terms of what to avoid and what to change in your life - those are your choices. i know that you want to do it yourself but speaking to someone about making changes and reducing stress factors can really help.

that's me the broken record.

keep trying s.b.

death happens every tiniest fragment of time and happens again every smaller tiniest fragment of time and there can be a tiniest fragment of time that makes life worth not losing . . .

that is an interesting specific, a car lot. maybe some subconscious reason that causes that association?

i have a lot of potential triggers. like simply driving home from work. get super thirsty and thus would always have a beer on the way home. or just being in my apartment, get bored and well may as well drink. have some beer in the fridge now and sure as shit i want one.

i can remember months at a time that i'd listen to music on my computer all evenings and get drunk to certain songs....they can be triggers. it is amazing how they can take so many different forms.
