My car was hit by a pickup truck that lost control on an icy road. The driver of the truck that hit me was not wearing a seat belt and walked off just fine... thankfully most of me is OK, but my right ankle was totally smashed. The talus bone was pretty much blown apart (Hawkins grade 4 talar fracture, they called it) and I spent 6 days in the hospital, recovering and having surgery to plate the bone back together. This injury is known to take a long time to heal and often comes with serious complications... I'm looking at a lifetime of arthritis if I'm lucky- joint collapse, ankle fusion and more arthritis if I'm not.

I'm 25 years old. I'm 7 of 8 years into a degree for a job that requires me to be on my feet all day, and now I'm not sure how I'm going to work. I'm angry, frustrated, and afraid of being in pain for the rest of my life. Everything was perfect until some idiot driving too fast changed everything, and he got off scot free. I'm just not handling this well at all, and I just needed to vent to some part of cyberspace that doesn't involve friends or family telling me that if I just stay positive, my ankle will MAGICALLY heal perfectly. That's pretty much my story... didn't know if maybe somebody here had any insight. I'm just short on that lately.

Being young is a big benefit-but it will probably bother you at times through-out your life (not good at sugar coatingSmile sorry). But take care and we are here to listen.

I do understand where your coming from. I too am angry at the lady who hit me and changed my life forever. I have pain everyday, but am trying to find ways to deal with it. Recently, I've been doin acupunture to help wth my muscle spasms. I'm also on pain meds (been on them for almost 1 yr and 9 months). I'm not happy about that I can only imagine what that is doing to my liver. I have also been using a tens unit. This is something you may want to talk to your PT to see if it can help with your type of injury. Keep your chin up we are all here to help you through this!
