Work Related Fears Revealed
Written by No1Believed
26 October 2011
So my boss informed me this evening that my co workers feel "jipped" because I often times go sit in a chair in the back office when my legs can't handle the strain or my back feels like it's being stabbed.

How are you? I am fine, thank you.

What are we supposed to say when someone asks, "How are you?"  Do we then tell them how we are?   Do they really want to know?   It likely depends on who is asking, and it's up to us to deciper which is which.

Meditation is a wonderful way to reduce the stress we experience in daily life.  It’s very simple to learn, can be done any time, in any place, and without taking much time from our lives.  Meditation reduces stress, can help us control pain and unhealthy emotions, and even strengthen us mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.

Chronic Illness and the Five Stages of Grief
Written by naddya819
07 April 2010
You've not been feeling well for quite some time now.  At first, you tried to ignore it, then finally realized that you couldn't put it off any more.  You make an appointment with your doctor, who schedules a series of strange and intimidating tests: blood work, CAT scans, MRIs and stuff you probably never even heard of.  After waiting for what seems forever to get your test results back, your doctor calls you into the office.  Then you get the news: you have a chronic illness, something that cannot be cured and that you will carry with you for the rest of your life.  You sit there, perhaps still in the exam room, maybe in your car in the parking lot, and you wonder, what now?

The Daily Challenge of Fibromyalgia
Written by naddya819
05 April 2010
Your alarm clock goes off, maybe for the second or even third time this morning.  Maybe for the fourth time!  It is so difficult to get out of bed because you just didn't sleep well.  The aches and pains kept you tossing and turning, and several times during the night you were wide awake for no reason at all.  Twice for sure you had such severe cramps in your calves that you had to spring out of bed and hobble around your darkened bedroom until you worked them out enough to crawl back into bed.  You know you have to get up, you have to get on with your day, but you're just so tired.  You roll over and squint at the clock, willing your eyes to focus so you can see exactly what time it is.  You grab for your morning medications; without them you know there's no way you can get out of bed.  You swallow your meds with a half-empty glass of lukewarm water you keep at your bedside, and you lay, patiently waiting, until the pain begins to subside.

If You Must Stop Working
Written by Starr
14 March 2009

Most people hope to work for as long as they possibly can.  If you have a job that is not physically taxing, you may be able to continue to work with Fibromyalgia for many years.  If, however, you MUST stop working, there are several types of disability to look into.  Your employer may have a long term disability plan.  You will have to find out about this plan from your employer, the human resources department at your job, or from your union.  If you worked and paid into Social Security, you may qualify for SSDI.  If you do NOT qualify under your own work record, you still may be able to get SSI if your income and assets are low enough.

The Spoon Theory
Written by Starr
10 March 2009
Many of our members have family and friends who just don't understand what Fibromyalgia is, or how it affects us. They don't understand what they can not see. The article that follows is probably one of the best and most popular ways of explaining through demonstration,  what we go through as we live with chronic pain, fatigue and exhaustion.

The author,  Christine Miserandin, was very creative in her approach. Her original story is available at: butyoudontlooksick.com .
