Advil Liquid Gels |
Jan 14 2012 |
There are these advil liquid gel commercials on TV all the time. They say shit like "you're just not yourself when you have a headache." I always wonder, who am I then?
It shows contruction workers on top of the girls head, and she flicks them away and I feel so jealous.
I hate jealousy. I don't want to be that way. I don't know how to stop it.... I try and just be happy for other people, but I want that for myself.
Any tips on dealing with Jealousy?

I wonder if they started using that line b/c of Snicker's "You're not yourself when you're hungry." commercials? It is annoying to think about 'normal' people being able to take a pill and get rid of their headache. Jealousy is understandable, even if it isn't becoming. I find that gratitude is the best way for me to deal with jealousy - being thankful for all the things in my life that are going well, even just thinking about parts of my body that DON'T hurt (even small parts like your pinky or your bellybutton
). I'm also trying to be more aware and compassionate towards others who suffer, whether it's physically, emotionally, spiritually, relationally, financially, or otherwise.

As for the "you are just not yourself when you have a headache" thing, in one way I suppose that is true if by "yourself" they mean the perfectly cheerful idealized self that we would like to pretend to be, but really no one is that way. I think that humans are most "themselves" under stress, pain or pressure. Everyone can look put together when there is nothing challenging them, but when trouble comes is when people get to see what they are really made of. Sometimes we like it, sometimes we don't, usually there are bits of each....but that doesn't sell pills very well so it doesn't get on tv.
