The Road that Lead to Fibro

This will hopefully be a place for me to record my journey. It's been on-going for a couple of years but I was just diagnosed with FMS within the last couple of weeks.

Another Day..

May 08 2010

I think I've about decided I'm not going to Lyrica, at least not at this point. There are too many other options out there to try, drugs where the side effects are a little better known andthe outcomes as well.

As I posted last week I noticed that taking my Migraine med (Relpax) also helped my Fibro pains. It's not something I can take regularly for multiple reasons (the main one being that insurance only pays for 9 a month), so I'll stick to just taking it for migraines and enjoying the added benefits.

Today the nerve pain was flaring up again, it felt like I just had electricity running through my body. As I was experiencing this we were on our way to visit my M-I-L 90 minutes away and the though crossed my mind that this electric feeling wasn't a lot different than I used to feel when i was having problems with anxiety.  This was several years ago and I took xanax on an as needed basis at the time for panic attacks. I've since kept a small supply available for the rare times I need it.  By small supply and rare times, let me say that the last time I got a refill was about 3 years ago and of those 30 pills I still have 6 left after today.  So I decided I'd try taking a xanax and see if anything happened.  By the time we got to my M-I-L's the electricity was gone and I could stand to be touched again.  I was able to enjoy the visit.  A few hours later on the way home I felt it coming back again and took another and sure enough it calmed down again.

When I got home I decided to research it and see if anyone was actually on Xanax for Fibro and found a couple of forums where that seemed to be the case with good results.  The primary one was this one:

Reviews for Xanax in treatment for Fibro

It's one more thing on my list to talk to my Dr about when I see her on Wednesday. Another thing I've been considering is that in the past I've been on Paxil for Anxiety issues and it worked well for me. The Ellavil doesn't seem to be doing anything so I'm wondering if that may be an option. From what I've read SSRI's (the class of anti-depressant that Paxil falls in) doesn't work as well for Fibro but can work well when combined with Ellavil (or another TCA).   Antidepressants as treatment for Fibro
