When I was not medicated properly and adding to that self-medicating with alcohol (and perhaps too much of prescription drugs as well). I isolated and was anything but easy to be around. And "one is the loneliest number you'll ever do."

I'm opening up in A.A. and N.A. meetings when I can make them, and I see where it does nobody any good to not engage and share with others, and particularily with those who have "been there, done that" with regard to addiction issues.

Responding to a Doctor's Comment about SSA

Jun 28 2012
I'm happy to see this post.  So many people who really need Social Security Disability get refused.  I have learned that the reality is that the Social Security System is having financialdifficulties (funding is predicted to run out sooner than predicted).

However, if one has a genuine medical need, it seems they need to see physicians like the one who posted this note for an accurate diagnosis.  Yes, I have heard there are doctors and psychiatrists that work with the Social Security System and their determination is certainly a primary one to be looked at.  However, if a proper diagnosis from a licensed physician accompanies the applicant to the evaluation, I think the chances would be better.

What worries me is that once a person gets on Supplemental Security Income, they tend to lose their incentive.  When you are on SSI, you cannot earn more than $2,000 (or so) in a month.

What I have strived to do in creating my website of Street Smart Salinas (now on Google) is to create ways that people can learn to live on less, yes, but also not give up hope while they look for a job.

The url for Street Smart Salinas is http://www.streetsmartsalinas.blogspot.com.

It is a site written by a person who has lived on the streets and while qualified for SSI and SSDI, has not received help from the agencies that are designed to provide help for a disabled person, not provided housing help either...so it's been a rough ride, but I can certainly appreciate the dilemma of the people on the streets.
