Nskoog24 I'm 31, and have been battling left side ON for 9 months now, the last 5 months everyday, all the time... It's the most debilitating and excrutiating pain I have ever felt. I was in 3 major car accidents in 1998, and twice in 2000. The most detrimental being my head on collission in '00, over time I have lost the lordosis in my cervical spine causing severe paraspinal muscle spasms. I was in PT, chiro, massage therapy , etc for 4 years. Then suddenly this April I had the most horrible burning, pressure like pain in the left side base of my skull that shot up over my scalp and temporal region and behind my left ear. It has never gone away since. I've tried more than 34 medications (from neurontin, lyrica, topamax, nortriptiline, flexeril, dexamethasone, Valium, maxalt, immitrex, and every pain med from excedrin to percocet. I've had 3 occipital nerve blocks that are horrendous the first 3 days then some relief for 2-4 days. Nothing has ever taking the pain away. Today, I had my first C2 selective nerve root block, fluoroscopy guided under general. Just waiting to see how this goes.. If not it's either a spinal cord implant neurostimulator by medtronics or occipital nerve decompression surgery. Not sure how much longer I can hold on. It's great to have forums like these so u can talk to people who understand.. ...Read More

Fluoroscopy guided selective C3 root ganglion block under general- Jan 26 '12

Feb 06 2012
So, had my second selective nerve root block on Jan 26th, this time for C3. I woke up from anesthesia feeling much better then the C2 selective root block. I was so elated I felt like going to the malland shopping my butt off or even doing zumba! Lol! That's how great I felt! ZERO pain upon awakening. It is a pretty noninvasive procedure and you go home that day after recovering, which is nice. This procedure was on a Thursday. I was pain free until Tuesday July 31st when I started noticing the sharp stabbing pains more in the lesser occipital nerves and that baseline dull ache at the left side greater occipital nerve again, but not as bad. I'm disappointed but hoping this steroid will kick in. I have several weeks until I fly to Houston to meet with Dr. Blake and Dr. Perry so it's a waiting game now. I would definitely recommend this procedure for those of you who have not tried it. Everyone is different and responds differently to procedures. My neurosurgeon said some patients have weeks to months free of pain. Im just not one of those lucky ones. It will also help confirm the source of your pain (usually C2 nerve root). Any questions, feel free to ask! Wish u all the best!
