Cops and more cops |
Aug 29 2010 |
I'm copying this from an email I wrote so I don't have to write it again, but I want it in my diary for safe keeping:
We just got pulled over for the third/fourth time in2 weeks and issued our 5th ticket in that time. A couple of weeks ago a cop in Monroe pulled Todd over for something, I don't even remember and let him off with a ticket for $54 no points - forget what it was except a money maker for the town. But he did get let off a point worthy ticket.
I was in an accident 2 days ago (3) and got issued 3 tickets which I'm spending my birthday money on to get a lawyer because they said that hitting a guard rail and driving away to call the insurance co. from a safe place up the street was Leaving the Scene of an Accident + Failure to Report an Accident (which I hadn't had a chance to do. I was on the side of a busy highway in the rain in a bad area at 5:00 A.M.) Yeah, I know, but I was going to try to pick up money that was owed to Todd for a job to save him the trip.
Tonight, we were supposed to take care of our friends dog and we forgot until 11:30. Todd was already asleep. I woke him up and told him we had to go to Doug's to feed Lexi and give her her pain pill even though we have to get up at 4:00 A.M. - It's 1:00 now.
On the way back (we have a rental) Todd's driving and unfamiliar with the rental car we've had for 2 days and had his high beams on by mistake so a cop pulled us over AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This time he let us off because Enterprise Rent A Car gave me an expired registration, but he didn't ticket for that. He claimed Todd was crossing the double yellow line several times! It's midnight, we're in a rental car and he was sleeping. The cop said he let him off of a 2 point ticket for careless driving by not ticketing him for that. So we had to get some ticket didn't we now?????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GGGGGRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!
He gave us a ticket for failure to turn off high beams. It doesn't say how much it costs, but the lawyer is $500 up front and $200 within a month. I'm going to owe hundreds if not thousands in fines for the tickets I got and the deductible for property damage because I have to pay to replace the damn guard rail I hit to add insult to injury. Not one of the cops that night (there were three all over me) asked if I was okay. They just wanted to fine me and ticket me into county jail because it would be the only way to pay off the fines when I tell the judge I'm indigent and can't pay any money. The court date is not even 2 weeks away. I don't have time to raise any money.
I'm going to ask the lawyer if he can get it postponed even though he's available because I need time to get money for the fines. If I don't hire this lawyer and get busted for everything, Leaving the Scene is a NJ 1 year loss of license automatic. It is 1:00 A.M. and I'm supposed to get up at 4:00 to help load Todd's truck to sell stuff at a flea market in the A.M. by 6:00 an hour from here. He's doing this for his mother who helps us out with money now and then, that's why. I can't sleep at all. I haven't even told you about my bladder problems, maybe mom has. The Urologists don't know what's wrong with me that I sometimes need tp use emergency medical equipment (private here.) I am obviously using this mail to vent my feelings, but I'm not going to be able to sleep tonight after this latest cop thing AGAIN!!!!!!!!!
Plus, if I stay home tomorrow, the sicko, psycho, slumlord has promised to "make us his first stop in the early A.M. to straighten things out" which means threats of eviction which my lawyer says to ignore. He's just a nasty bastard, he does a lot of coke we think, and I'm scared to death of him. And if I don't get up at 4 and go with Todd, I may be here alone when he tries to get in the house. If he can't get it, all he has to do is tell the police it's an emergency and they'll break the door down with me cowering in a corner having the worst panic attack of my life. No one but you wants to be my friend on Facebook. I have about 10-15 requests out there and you and 1 other person are the only ones that answered and the other guy is Todd's friend.
Why are we attracting so many damn cops!? We deliberately traded in a red car rental for a silver one that cost more than we get per day so we wouldn't have a red car with out of state plates because it's a cop magnet and we get pulled over anyway. I still haven't been back to the scene of the accident to see what the guard rail looks like. Did they see my skid marks in the wet, muddy grass and pick a dent and call it mine because that whole guard rail is nothing but dents. Or did I flatten the thing? The car is pretty bad, so the guard rail may be too, but I have to get that lawyer or I WILL lose my license for a year and will probably have to pay off fines with a daily fee of being in county jail for being poor.
Welcome to the Jungle, I'm gonna watch you die. - Guns and Roses. HELP?

I do hope the best for you.
Recently, two of my daughter's friends were killed because when their car died they put on their hazards put did not leave the car and the highway. They were rearended. I think you were right to find a place to pull off the highway and I bet you could fight this one and get it taken off your record.
Bye and hope things get better.

It would be a good idea to go to the crash site either with a camera or cam corder and record the condition of the gard rails and/or present your side of the events so that you can present it to a judge.
I wish you luck in beating those bogus tickets. Take care of yourself, I am sure you do not need this shit.
