Learning to Live with Erythroderma

Exfoliative Dermatitis (Erythroderma)

Iliopsoas

Mar 28 2012

I'm still fighting my battle with Erythroderms, but now a new problem has occurred.  I didn't do anything at all that I know of to cause it, but about a month or so ago, my lower back hurt in the center of the left lower quadrant.  The pain went through to my lower side in front.  I've had this pain before and it always seems to clear up on it's own.  This time it didn't.

The pain kept intensifying until it involved my entire lower back and down the back of both legs.  I was diagnosed with Iliopsoas and have had 4 Physical Therapy sessions and am seeing some improvement.

Therapy involves the therapist manipulating my legs, massage, and heat.  Eventually, I'll be given exercises to do.  Strangely, I can put my foot up in the chair I'm sitting in with no pain, but when I stand, the pain is really severe.  I guess that is typical of that muscle involvement.  It takes me 15 or so minutes to get loosened up enough to walk when I wake in the mornings.  The pain is pretty bad then, but it fades as my muscles loosen.

I'm still fighting the Erythroderma.  Exfoliation has been severe for a couple of months, and I'm losing big pieces of skin constantly.  The redness continues as well, along with all the other symptoms that I don't want to bring up right now.

We will be moving in a couple of months to where most of my children live.  I love the new house and will be delighted to be near the kids.  I'm excited about it and it has cheered me considerably.  My kitty will have to be locked inside until she realizes this is our new home.  Then I'll let her out for short periods until she becomes aquainted with the neighborhood.

Life goes on, and I enjoy most days, in spite of the physical problems.  I'm so thankful for a loving family and all my riends.  I appreciate my friends on MDJ too!  Blessings to you all.

Dear Violett

pain is horrible! I feel for you. Mine is not painful (yet) but I've developed an edema on both feet and that's painful to walk.

One thing springs to mind: are you on topical steroids? If so, does your dermo change them every few weeks, or have you recently changed them? I'm on my second product and my dermo said he will likely change it again in a week or two as their effectiveness decreases and, ironically, the risk of reactions also increases.

I'm now at about 98% red :-( and rising!

you take care
Rych
