I have never put 2 and 2 together, but have figured out in therapy that I have had episodes of being anxious or panicky and just let them go. I remember a few years ago driving and all of a sudden at a stop light I couldn't breath. When I was in college I had the lump feeling in my throat, but didn't think it was from panicking. I avoided Walmart for 2 years because all the lights and noise would bother me and I would come home with a bad headache and angry. I grew up with a hysterical( among other things) mother, and this just made me more anxious. So now I see the pattern, I just have to be strong enough to keep going and say I can get better, I may never do certain things , like malls, Walmart, but I will get back to being able to shop at smaller stores, I will get back to hiking and enjoying life no matter how long it takes.
