MDJunction to me

jaguarandcubs"MDJ is an integral part of my everyday life. Since joining in 2010, I have met so many amazing people. It is truly incredible to be able to share good times and not so good times with others who face the same health challenges. And MDJ has support groups for every condition I have. I don't know of anywhere else that can offer that. I love that I can learn from others as well as offer my own experiences for others to learn from." (jaguarandcubs)

Boost your Metabolism

Feb 10 2011

Metabolism is how fast the body burns calories. By increasing your metabolism, it makes it that much easier to lose weight. I saw an article on WebMD today about ways to increasethe metabolism. The article had your typical ways to increase metabolism like building muscle, intense cardio workouts, and drinking more water. However, there were some interesting tips to increase metabolism. I found these to be the highlights of the article

  • Iced Drinks – Ice-cold beverages cause the body to burn more calories. By drinking 5 or 6 glasses of ice water a day, you can lose a pound a year without any extra effort.
  • Eat More Often – Eating large meals trains the body to slow down the metabolism in between meals. By snacking in between meals, it gets the metabolism going all throughout the day.
  • Spicy Foods – Chemical compounds in spicy kick starts the metabolism. A tablespoon of red or green chili pepper can increase your metabolic rate by 23%.
