My abusive brother-in-laws

Jun 01 2011

My boyfriend and I went to my folks house on Memorial Day for a cookout. My brother-in-laws didn't say two words to him. My folks spoke to him a little, but I felt there was a tension there at this family gathering. I'm thinking that its because I'm dating again. It's easier for everyong to just see me alone at these things. They don't want things to change.

One of my brother-in-laws is an out-right verbal and emotional abuser. He is angry at me for something I didn't do. He didn't even look our way.

The other is an abuser too, but I can't find a label for him. He drinks too much and hides it, and spends their credit cards out to the max, then my sister works like crazy to pay them down - only to have the cycle repeat. He was very quiet as he usually is at these gatherings.

Would it have killed either of them to welcome my bf to the cookout, since he hardly know anyone there???

I'm not taking my bf to any family gatherings for awhile because I'm not going either!

Seems his presence really struck a chord with them, huh? I wouldn't attend any more family gatherings either!
