It seems like putting DJ on a mostly-organic diet has been working wonders! We made the switch about 3 weeks ago and have really been sticking to the no-artificial-preservatives-no-red-dye-no-yellow-dye diet. His grandparents are a little torqued about the food dye, but I'm adamant and they'll get over it. So he can't have red Jell-o! BFD! I'll buy you the blue Jell-o! :p
We had to get creative for speech therapy. His speech therapist brought a Fruit Roll-up for him to practice his "L" sounds this week by sticking it to the roof of his mouth. Thank goodness she thought to ask if the Fruit Roll-up was allowed! I was all ready to answer "yes", when I thought to ask if it had red or yellow dye in it. Oops! Good catch on my part, I guess. ;) We supplemented an organic blueberry fruit leather instead and - while not a perfect solution - it's still better than letting him go off-track and allowing something he really shouldn't have knowing it will exacerbate his symptoms. The blueberry fruit leather did the trick for therapy and his phonetic reading is really coming together!
He's been so focused and so well-behaved this week. His Sensei even commented on his focus and determination to master this week's skills in karate class. :)
He's been a little clingier and needier than usual at bedtime the last week - 10 days, but I suspect it's nothing more than the change of seasons and not liking the noisy air conditioner in his bedroom that makes him beg to sleep in my bed every night.
