Self-Discipline&Family Eating Habits |
May 08 2008 |
I had to write another entry because I got off on a tangent about eating habits so I thought I would post it seperately.
I like to freeze the cookie dough into separate shapes and cook it whenwe are craving a snack so we don't feel like we need to eat them all at once. It seems to work well.
I do however buy dark chocolate m & m's and dark chocolate peanut m & m's and keep them in a jar on the counter. It is painted so the kids don't see them inside, but my husband said I should stop buying the peanut m & m's because many times he just eats them after dinner. So I am praying about that one. Self-discipline can be hard.
I also try not to buy icecream. I figure if I want it we can go out somewhere to get it when we need it.
In this country it is so easy for us to eat unhealthy at parties, church functions or family get togethers. And both of our parents are close by so we see them monthly. And being from that generation they really have a different concept of how to eat healthy. Diets, deprevation, GOd forbid you eat organic foods, buy as many items on sale! Oh and always keep a rotting head of iceburg lettuce in the produce drawer, just a little humor there. I actually like iceburg lettuce now for years I would only buy romaine and red leaf, ever since I had a wedge salad, now I usually buy both types of lettuce iceburg and red leaf or romaine. Oh I also stopped buying dressing and I make just extra light virgin olive oil dressing with varieties of vinegar. I bought a couple good seasons cruets and just make a couple of them and they don't need to be refrigerated. And it cuts down on the sodium that dressing usually has.
Although I have to say we are the coffee generation. My husband definitely has a weakness for this substance. I try to drink only decaf, but I know that is chemically treated as well so I might just be better off drinking the caffinated stuff or none at all. I only drink about 2 cups a day, if any at all. I used to put organic, there's that word, raw sugar in with light cream or half & half 2- 3 tbs because I usually make the coffee strong. It is much more flavorful and satisfying. For months now I have cut out the sugar and just use cream and I just read an article in Fitness magazine (another generational thing magazines) that said have the coffee with the sugar no cream, so it has me thinking. And today because I could not make the cookies instantly I went for the peanut m & m's.
Well that is my saga I better start my dinner, it's now 5:01 pm so I have just over an hour before my huby comes home to make dinner and clean up the kitchen from the mess I am going to make and then I am going to sing at choir practice for church. We have not had it in 3 weeks so it will be great to learn the songs for Sunday and have fellowship and prayer and read God's word. Amen and Hallelujah!
Kids are getting restless again enough me time.
