I can't take Methotrexate because I have HCV (Hepatitis C), so we're going to start Plaquenil today.
As many of you may already know RA & HCV is a bad mix from a treatment standpoint. Add treatment for the HCV & it will set off the RA spinning out of control & damaging tissue & organs along the way - treat the RA & the HCV can get out of control, damaging, or further damaging the liver & other organs. Not a nice combination & having an immune system that's pretty thrashed already certainly doesn't help.
We're going to do a Hep. A & B series.
I've had at least the hep. B series, yet you could hardly tell looking at my lab work, which shows only VERY slight antibodies to hep. B (HBV), yet because Hep. B & C together can be a deadly mix, I agree that it best to at least try to get my HBV antibody levels up.
The only thing er are doing for the HCV at this point is taking Lactulose to keep the ammonia levels down & to act as a laxative, which I may not need if the Plaquenil takes care of that, other than to keep the ammonia levels down.
Os anyone else dealing with both RA & HCV (Hep C) with or without other things?
I'd like to get together with others who have both Hep. C (HCV) & RA (Rheumatoid Arthritis). This seems to be a nasty mix & I can use all the information I can get & will share what I've found thus far.
I'm taking supplements for the HCV to try to minimize any liver damage & to try to keep the virus at bay. I also was diagnosed with HSV a few years back, as well as some other things.
After looking at the signs & symptoms, as well as things I & my parents were told when I was a kid, and it seems that I likely got it from blood I was given as a child. I wasn't expected to live much past 20 or so in the mid 1970's, ad the symptoms were all there from childhood, so that makes the most sense as far as exposure times.
Thankfully, at least on an ultrasound, my liver seems t be OK. I wish the GI doc would have done a CT instead, but I have to work with what we have so far.
I took my 1st dose of Plaquenil a few hours ago, and so far, so good. I've been concerned, as my intestinal tract hasn't been in the best shape for a while. About a year or so ago & back, I was throwing up for months without any resolution as to why. Nice that it hasn't started any troubles thus far! I feel a bit "spacey", which sucks, but my pain levels are down from where they were, yet I did do a lot of meditation today, which seemed to help, as my pain levels, even with the other medications, were getting out if control again & with spasms that were getting to be intolerable & had me in bed for the last couple of weeks feeling pretty helpless, but knowing I'd get them down & get some control back.
Anyone else feel "spacey" when 1st taking Plaquenil?
