Too Young For Breast Cancer
Written by jessica_harris9

too young for breast cancer“But you’re too young to have breast cancer”! I can’t tell you the countless times I’ve heard that phrase. At chemo my standard response to these women who were older than my mother and some older than my grandmother was “we’re all too young to have breast cancer”. On the other hand, my standard response out in the world of the healthy was “yeah, crazy isn’t it”. But what is too young for breast cancer, or any cancer for that matter? I’ve read articles of teenage girls dying of inflammatory breast cancer. We’ve all heard the sad stories of childhood cancers. Yet countless women remain in the dark regarding breast cancer issues despite all of the pink ribbon campaigns. We all feel we’re exempt from the ferociousness of it, until we meet someone or are afflicted ourselves.

Breast cancer and genetics
Written by Alan
10 January 2007
geneticsEvery cell contains your genetic information in its nucleus. The genes you inherited from your mother and father are largely responsible for how your body and mind behave and they are like an instruction book of controls for your bodily functions. The risk of contracting breast cancer has shown to increase when inheriting certain genes that contain an anomaly that may result in uncontrolled cancerous cell growth. It is not certain that if you have inherited these genes you will contract the disease, but studies have shown that in this case your risk is double that of people with no genetic heredity history.

Cancer and the family
Written by Alan
12 December 2006
cancer_and_the_familyMany women want to fight cancer with every means possible. This is not only so for themselves but for their family and especially for their children. Mothers to young children especially feel the need to hold on. A month more of life can mean so much!  But if you are just lying in bed and feeling as sick as can be, are you really there for your children? Treatment can come at a very high price. Others may argue that as long as you are alive, this is of utmost importance to your children, and then, it means also so much to you, the patient, to be able to be there for them.

Understanding breast cancer risk

check_risksStatistics, statistics, statistics. Getting the numbers is not always enough, understanding them is what counts.
Every woman is at risk of contracting breast cancer. Over a 90 years life span the risk of getting breast cancer is 14% for women. This means one in seven women on average will get breast cancer. There is of course another way to look at this data - 14% risk means there is 86% chance one will NOT get breast cancer. This article is meant to look at various risk factors and how much effect preventive measures have on reducing the risk.

Though not every cancer can be detected this way, it has been proven as a critical step in detection. Examining ones breast is sometimes a frustrating process.
