Many people have questions about what doctor they should see for their fibromyalgia. I find the answers can vary almost as much as the treatment. Having multiple diagnoses makes this even more complicated. It can take some trial and error. The WebMD article referenced below can help make that choice a little clearer. There is a strong connection between fibromyalgia and bipolar disorder. There are many similarities between the two disorders, and people with fibromyalgia are sometimes misdiagnosed with bipolar disorder and vice versa. Many fibromyalgia patients may also suffer from bipolar disorder as well as depression.

New research suggests that just over 25 percent of patients with fibromyalgia also have symptoms of bipolar disorder.

According to Dr. William Wilke from the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio and his colleagues, “the most important finding of our study pertains to the high prevalence of a positive screen for bipolar disorder in patients with fibromyalgia.”
